Maaya Uchida
Description
Maaya Uchida is a Japanese voice actress, singer, and actress born in Tokyo on December 27, 1989. Her interest in voice acting stemmed from a strong childhood passion for video games, which led her to join her middle school's theater club and ultimately decide on a career in voice acting during her third year of high school. After graduating from the Japan Narration Acting Institute, she made her voice acting debut in 2009 with a role in the original video animation (OVA) Boku, Otari-man. She became affiliated with the talent agency I'm Enterprise in April 2010.
Uchida's first major breakthrough as a voice actress came in 2012 when she landed her first lead role as the zombie girl Rea Sanka in the anime Sankarea. In the same year, she portrayed what would become one of her most iconic and enduring characters, Rikka Takanashi, in the series Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!. This role is one she has stated she holds particularly strong feelings for. Also in 2012, she made her debut as a live-action actress in the tokusatsu series Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger.
Throughout her career, Uchida has built an extensive and diverse portfolio of anime roles, demonstrating considerable range. Some of her many notable performances include Hiyori Iki in Noragami, Catarina Claes in My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!, Yuki Yoshino in the Food Wars! series, Frenda Seivelun in the A Certain Scientific Railgun and A Certain Magical Index series, Guild Girl in Goblin Slayer, Sharo Kirima in Is the Order a Rabbit??, Norman in The Promised Neverland, Ranko Kanzaki in The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls, and Shinobu Miyake in the 2022 adaptation of Urusei Yatsura. In the realm of video games, she is well-known as the voice of Veronica in Dragon Quest XI, Sharena in Fire Emblem Heroes, and Fischl in Genshin Impact. Among the works that presented a significant challenge in her career, she has cited her dual role as Yusa and Misa Nishimori in Charlotte and her role as Ayame in Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress.
For her impactful performances as a rising talent, particularly as Hajime Ichinose in Gatchaman Crowds, Uchida was honored with the Best Rookie Actress Award at the 8th Seiyu Awards in 2014. She has a younger brother, Yuma Uchida, who is also a prominent voice actor.
In addition to her voice acting work, Uchida has enjoyed a successful career as a singer. She made her solo musical debut in 2014 under the Pony Canyon label with the single "Soushou Innocence," which was used as the opening theme for the anime Riddle Story of Devil. Her musical career has flourished, leading to the release of multiple albums and singles, many of which have been featured as theme songs for anime series, such as "youthful beautiful" for SSSS.Gridman. She has held solo concerts in major venues, including a performance at the Nippon Budokan in 2019.
