Description
Eruza Nakanishi, also known as Brute Cheetah, is a young woman who serves as a fighter in the clandestine, high-stakes tournament known as Killing Bites. She is affiliated with the powerful Yatsubishi Zaibatsu and fights alongside her older brother, Taiga Nakanishi, as a representative for their organization. Her physical appearance is that of a high school girl with a slightly short stature and a comparatively small chest. She has shoulder-length caramel brown hair, typically tied into short twin-tails with distinct sphere-shaped ornaments, and brown eyes, which are depicted as dark red in the anime adaptation. When not in a tournament, her casual attire consists of a white long-sleeved collared shirt, a blue tie, a grey-yellow sweater vest, a dark grey-blue skirt, navy blue socks, and black shoes. For her fights, she changes into a cheetah-print tube top and a matching sarong skirt. Over the course of the story, her appearance evolves; two years later, she lets her hair down, switches to a short-sleeved shirt without a vest, and eventually cuts her hair short before entering the Killing Bites Sudden Death tournament.
Eruza's personality is defined by a sharp contrast between her public demeanor and her battle persona. In everyday situations, she comes across as childish, naughty, and playful, exemplified when she steals Hitomi Uzaki's panties just to provoke a chase. She is also willing to participate in lighthearted activities like cosplaying for photography club members. However, this carefree attitude vanishes completely when she engages in combat. Within the arena, Eruza becomes serious, violent, and bloodthirsty, embracing her identity as a hunter who shows no mercy to her prey. She believes a cheetah is meant to fight without hesitation, seizing any opportunity to strike an opponent. She is highly confident, sometimes to the point of arrogance, in her abilities, especially her speed, and frequently taunts her opponents with a smile. As a veteran Brute, she looks down on inexperienced rookies and is determined to put them in their place. Despite her ruthless nature, she can show a degree of leniency if satisfied, as seen when she chooses not to finish off the unconscious Hitomi after securing a victory. She also takes great pride in being a Brute and becomes displeased when others, like the salamander hybrid Moe Hanzaki, use underhanded tactics, which she sees as a disgrace.
Eruza's core motivation is deeply tied to her family, specifically her older brother Taiga, whom she loves, respects, and feels fiercely loyal to as her only remaining family. He is the one who gave her courage, and she is deeply concerned for his well-being, rushing to the hospital when he is critically injured and feeling that the Killing Bites tournament is less exciting without his participation. Another significant driver is her quest for vengeance against Ui Inaba, the rabbit Brute who accidentally knocked her unconscious during a crucial match in the first Destroyal tournament. This humiliating defeat, which cost Eruza the championship, becomes a primary motivation for her in subsequent events.
In the overarching narrative, Eruza serves as a prominent rival and occasional ally to the series protagonist, Hitomi Uzaki, the Brute Ratel. After transferring to the same university, she develops a keen and somewhat obsessive interest in Hitomi, viewing her as a potential rival and engaging in flirtatious and provocative behavior towards her. During the Killing Bites Destroyal, she is forced into an uneasy alliance with Hitomi to fight against other Brutes, but their duel is constantly interrupted by external forces. Her key relationships include her partnership with her brother Taiga, her rivalry with Hitomi, and a later enmity with Ui Inaba.
As Brute Cheetah, Eruza transforms to gain the characteristics of a cheetah, which gives her a suite of formidable natural abilities. Her most notable power is her explosive speed, earning her the title of the fastest Brute in the tournament. She can reach a top speed of approximately 120 kilometers per hour and accelerate to 72 km/h in just two seconds. Even in her untransformed state, she possesses great speed and agility. Her cheetah transformation also grants her enhanced vision that allows her to perceive high-speed movement as if it were in slow motion, giving her extraordinary reflexes. Her non-retractable, razor-sharp dew-claws, which she keeps constantly gripping the ground for traction, are the secret behind her acceleration and allow her to slice through flesh with ease. She also has impressive endurance, capable of withstanding powerful blows from heavy hitters like the gecko Brute Kaede Kazama and the lion Brute Yuugo Tani. Her fighting style is that of a speed-type fighter, relying on delivering a flurry of swift, fatal blows. When not fighting seriously, her feline instincts turn combat into a game of cat and mouse. She is capable of using a technique called Zessou, where she positions herself on all fours, digs her claws into the ground, and launches herself at her opponent with explosive speed to deliver a death blow before they can react.
