Description
Kaguya Yamai appears as one of the Spirits in the Date A Live: Mayuri Judgement film. She is one half of the fifth Spirit, having originally been a single entity named Yamai that split into two separate beings for unknown reasons, resulting in Kaguya and her counterpart Yuzuru Yamai. In the movie, Kaguya is among the six Spirits whom the protagonist Shido Itsuka dates in an effort to dissipate a mysterious sphere of energy hovering over Tengu City. Her participation in this sequence of dates is part of the film's central plot.

Personality wise, Kaguya is known for being outgoing, forthright, and gregarious, though she can also be seen as somewhat childish or immature. She famously exhibits traits of chuunibyou, often speaking with dramatic flair, using grandiose gestures, and incorporating foreign phrases into her speech to project an aura of sophistication. Despite this theatrical facade, she is perfectly capable of communicating normally, and her act tends to crumble easily, particularly when she is flustered or when matters of a romantic or sensual nature arise, revealing a much more genuine and endearing side. She has a strong preference for things she considers cool or flashy and has a noted aversion to studying.

Her primary motivation, as with many Spirits, is her survival and her evolving relationship with Shido. However, her deepest and most defining motivation is tied to her twin, Yuzuru. The two sisters maintain a perpetual rivalry, competing against each other in a contest to determine who is the true Yamai, a struggle that originally implied one would have to absorb the other and cease to exist. Yet, beneath this competitive surface, each cares for the other above all else, and they have been known to intentionally try to lose these contests to spare their sister. Their collective motivation is to find a way to coexist, a resolution Shido provides through his sealing of their powers.

Within the story of the film, Kaguya's role is as one of the key Spirits whose emotional state directly impacts the central anomaly. The plot is driven by the need for Shido to date her and the other girls who have strong feelings for him, which includes Kaguya. Her relationship with Shido is that of a close friend and romantic interest, and the twins refer to him as their shared possession. The bond with Yuzuru is her most significant relationship; they are described as having an incredibly close, almost interdependent connection, and they become more unstable when separated from each other than the other Spirits do from their own attachments. Kaguya also gets along well with Tohka Yatogami, whom she sees as a kindred spirit due to their equally energetic natures.

In terms of development, Kaguya's arc is about moving from a state of forced rivalry with her other half to one of accepted coexistence. Before the events of the film, her sole purpose was to compete with Yuzuru, a conflict born from their fractured origin. Through her interactions with Shido, she, along with Yuzuru, is able to accept a new path where both can survive and live together without one having to absorb the other. This resolution allows their development to continue as individuals within a group of friends, rather than as two halves of a singular, conflicted entity.

Regarding abilities, Kaguya is a powerful Spirit classified under the code name Berserk. Her primary ability is the manipulation of wind, which she can use for attacks, flight, and generating massive storms. She is noted for having exceptionally high agility, making her one of the fastest Spirits. Her Astral Dress, the protective garment of a Spirit, is named Elohim Tzabaoth, and her Angel, a powerful manifestation of her will, is the lance-wielding Raphael. When fighting alongside Yuzuru, they can combine their powers to create devastating hurricane-force attacks.
