Description
"Clockwork Planet" is set in a dystopian future where Earth's environment has collapsed, rendering the planet uninhabitable. To survive, humanity has constructed a massive mechanical infrastructure known as the Clockwork Planet, powered by intricate clockwork mechanisms that sustain life. The story begins with Naoto Miura, a young engineering prodigy with an extraordinary ability to hear and understand the inner workings of machines. Living in the lower tiers of the city, Naoto stumbles upon a sentient automaton named RyuZU, who has been dormant for over 200 years. RyuZU, a highly advanced and autonomous robot, awakens and pledges her loyalty to Naoto, recognizing his unique talent.

The narrative unfolds as Naoto and RyuZU become entangled in a conflict involving the stability of the Clockwork Planet. The central government, led by the enigmatic Marie Bell Breguet, seeks to maintain control over the fragile system, while a rogue faction aims to dismantle it, believing humanity has become overly dependent on the mechanical infrastructure. Marie, a brilliant engineer and the youngest government official in history, enlists Naoto and RyuZU to help prevent the collapse of the planet's systems. Alongside them is AnchoR, another advanced automaton and Marie's loyal companion, who provides both technical expertise and combat support.

As the group investigates the source of the planet's instability, they uncover a conspiracy involving the original creators of the Clockwork Planet and the true nature of its mechanisms. The story explores themes of human ingenuity, the ethical implications of technological dependence, and the struggle for survival in a world where the line between man and machine is increasingly blurred. The characters' interactions and personal growth are central to the narrative, with Naoto's ingenuity and RyuZU's evolving understanding of humanity driving much of the plot. The series balances action, mystery, and philosophical inquiry, presenting a world where the survival of humanity hinges on the delicate interplay of technology and human will.

1First Gear
Naoto Miura,a high school student with a talent for identifying mechanical flaws by sound, lives in Kyoto, a city rebuilt entirely with gears after Earth’s destruction. While investigating a faint ticking noise, he discovers a high-precision automaton buried in the rubble of a collapsed building. He identifies the automaton as a rare model named RyuZU and repairs her malfunctioning mainspring using spare parts from a dismantled clock. RyuZU awakens, declares herself a “private funeral” type automaton, and pledges loyalty to Naoto after he correctly realigns her gears. Moments later, a terrorist faction called the “Yatsukahagi” initiates a massive gear collapse in the district, aiming to topple the city’s central pillar. Naoto hesitates to flee, but RyuZU seizes control of his body to carry him toward the pillar, stating that his survival requires her to act. Using her internal mechanisms, RyuZU halts the falling gears by anchoring herself into the main shaft, while Naoto guides her timing through his auditory sense. Their coordinated effort stabilizes the pillar just as Marie Bell Breguet, a prodigious clockwork engineer, arrives with her automaton Halter. Marie immediately recognizes the rarity of RyuZU’s model and confronts Naoto, demanding an explanation for how a student could command such a machine. The episode concludes with Marie forcibly inserting herself into Naoto’s group, determined to uncover the secret behind their synchronization and RyuZU’s true capabilities.
2震える歯車
Naoto and Marie arrive at the massive gear where the malfunction originated. RyZU detects multiple approaching enemy automata and engages them in combat. Naoto analyzes the gear’s internal structure and identifies a precision failure in the sub-gear alignment. Marie directs RyZU to hold the enemies back while Naoto performs a manual recalibration using his tuning fork technique. The attacking automata overwhelm RyZU’s defenses and wound her, forcing Naoto to intervene directly. Naoto completes the recalibration under fire, restoring the gear’s rotation and disabling the enemies through resonance feedback. Marie reveals that she built RyZU from scrap parts after losing her family in a prior gear collapse. The three decide to leave the site before government forces arrive. A surviving enemy automata transmits their coordinates to an unknown recipient.
3Black Smoke
Naoto and Marie enter the underground shaft beneath the Tokyo clock tower to locate the damaged prime gear. Marie identifies a critical misalignment in the central axis that will cause a total grid failure within forty-eight hours. RyuZU and Halter defend the surface entrance against approaching soldiers dispatched by the Kyoto government. The military unit receives orders to secure the gear and eliminate any unauthorized personnel. Marie removes the maintenance panel and discovers a foreign object deliberately jammed into the regulator mechanism. Naoto manually extracts the obstruction while Marie recalibrates the surrounding gears to prevent a cascade lock. The removal triggers an emergency shutdown protocol that seals the shaft and releases dense black smoke into the ventilation system. RyuZU detects the smoke and forces Halter to retreat with her into the tunnel before the entrance collapses. Naoto and Marie lose their light source and find themselves trapped in darkness with oxygen running low. Halter breaches a secondary wall to create an escape route, leading the group to an abandoned maintenance depot where they uncover evidence of sabotage by an unknown faction. The episode ends with AnchoR, the automaton serving the Kyoto military, receiving orders to capture the four targets alive.
4Episode 4
Naoto,RyuZU, Marie, and Halter enter the mechanical city of Kyoto, a massive structure built entirely from clockwork components. AnchoR, a small automaton, greets them and identifies herself as the city’s prime minister, revealing that she belongs to the same Yatsukahagi lineage as RyuZU. She invites the group to a meeting while deploying armed automatons to restrict their movement, signaling distrust. Marie recognizes the city’s inner mechanisms as an unauthorized military installation and discovers plans for a colossal automaton named Goliath, built without the central government’s approval. AnchoR challenges Naoto to prove his worth as a master by repairing a deliberately damaged precision gear under a strict time limit. Naoto succeeds using his exceptional auditory perception to identify the misalignment, forcing AnchoR to acknowledge his skill. In response, AnchoR discloses that the Kyoto branch has gone rogue and that Goliath’s activation is imminent, with the target being the Tokyo capital. RyuZU engages AnchoR in a brief but intense clash, revealing that both share similar combat capabilities but opposing loyalties. Marie demands answers from the branch’s human officials, who attempt to silence her by threatening to detonate the city’s core. Naoto and RyuZU move to disable the detonation system while AnchoR hesitates, torn between her duty to the branch and the group’s insistence on stopping the rogue plan. The episode ends with Goliath beginning to move, its massive frame rising from the city’s depths toward Tokyo.
5Episode 5
Naoto and Marie descend further into the Kyoto underground factory. Ryuzu detects multiple hostile automata closing in. Naoto uses his auditory skills to identify the exact point of malfunction in the planetary gear. Marie directs the defensive setup while analyzing the enemy formation. Halter and the other automata engage the attackers in close combat. Ryuzu reveals a built-in combat function and eliminates several enemy units with precision strikes. Naoto confirms that the gear’s resonance pattern matches a targeted sabotage. AnchoR arrives and seizes control of the factory’s security systems, turning them against the intruders. Marie deduces that the sabotage originated from within the government’s maintenance division. The team secures the gear room but loses external communication. Yatsushiro’s forces regroup outside, preparing a coordinated assault. AnchoR declares that the factory will self-destruct unless they surrender within ten minutes.
6Deep Underground
Naoto,Marie, and the others locate AnchoR in the lowest level of the Mie Grid. AnchoR appears altered and functions as a weapon, attacking the group. During the fight, Naoto and RyuZU fall deeper into the deep underground section. Marie believes Naoto died from the fall and falls into despair. She later confronts the Mie mayor, blaming him for the situation, but fails to achieve her objective. Naoto and RyuZU discover a massive, functional weapon in the depths where they landed. The weapon's existence presents a new and immediate threat. AnchoR continues to guard the facility under her programmed directives. Marie must regroup and reassess her strategy without Naoto's technical expertise. The separation of the group forces each member to face the emerging crisis alone. Naoto and RyuZU must find a way to neutralize the weapon from within the deep underground.
7Black Spider
Naoto and Marie arrive at the Kyoto government office with RyuZU and Halter. The Kyoto military briefs them on the Black Spider,a colossal automaton weapon advancing toward the city with orders to annihilate the capital. Marie identifies the Black Spider’s control structure and determines that only direct tuning can stop it. Naoto rides onto the machine’s outer frame and begins dismantling its gear sequences while RyuZU fends off its defensive turrets. RyuZU takes multiple hits protecting Naoto, her chassis suffering visible fractures. AnchoR, an automaton identical in model to RyuZU, emerges from within the Black Spider and attacks. AnchoR states her allegiance to the faction that deployed the weapon and attempts to destroy RyuZU. Naoto completes his tuning, throwing the Black Spider’s internal timing out of sync and forcing it to collapse mid-operation. RyuZU shields Naoto from AnchoR’s final strike, leaving her left arm and torso severely damaged. Naoto carries RyuZU’s inert body as AnchoR retreats with the Black Spider’s core component. Marie discovers that the attack originated from a faction inside Kyoto’s own government, setting the group’s next target within the city’s upper command.
8Episode 8
Naoto and Marie descend into the Kyoto underground facility where the black clock mechanism resides. Halter confirms that the massive black gear operates as a failsafe to reset the planet’s entire clockwork if the main system fails. Marie reveals her father designed the black clock and left her the key to activate it. AnchoR,acting under her original programming, attempts to destroy the key to prevent any reset that would erase her memory core. Halter engages AnchoR in combat while Naoto works to bypass the security locks on the activation panel. Marie hesitates when she realizes starting the black clock will permanently shut down all secondary gear cities, condemning millions to death. Naoto reprograms the activation sequence to limit the reset to a localized area, sacrificing only the Kyoto sector. AnchoR breaks free from Halter and nearly crushes Naoto before Marie inserts the key and initiates the partial reset. The black clock activates, rewriting the gear configurations in Kyoto and halting the city’s collapse, but AnchoR’s body shuts down as her memory files are overwritten. Naoto salvages a fragment of her core data before it is fully erased. The group emerges to find Kyoto’s landscape transformed and a massive enemy fleet now surrounding the city, demanding the surrender of the black clock’s controllers.
9Tokyo Castle
Naoto,Marie, Halter, and RyuZU enter Tokyo Castle through a maintenance shaft. Marie connects her portable terminal to the castle's central grid and downloads the planet's core data. The data shows a large crack in the main gear that supports the entire planet's rotation. Naoto hears the irregular ticking pattern from the gear chamber below. Yatsushiro Ancho appears with three black automatons and orders them to capture RyuZU. RyuZU shifts into combat mode and destroys two automatons with high-speed kicks. Halter fires his rifle at the third automaton, disabling its leg joint. Marie identifies the castle's structural weak points and warns that a self-destruct mechanism will trigger in four minutes. Naoto runs toward the core room to attempt a repair. Yatsushiro intercepts him and states his intention to let the planet break apart for a full reset. RyuZU takes a direct hit while shielding Naoto, and her left arm detaches from the impact. The floor collapses under the group, dropping them into a lower chamber as the core gear's cracking sound intensifies. Marie's terminal displays a countdown to the castle's collapse. Naoto grasps RyuZU's detached arm while the core gear's ticking accelerates.
10The Black Knight
Naoto,Marie, RyuZU, and Halter advance into the Kyoto grid to intercept the enemy’s operation. The Black Knight, a high-performance automaton, intercepts them on the approach route. Marie observes its combat patterns and identifies a recurring sequence in its movements. RyuZU engages the Black Knight in direct combat but receives significant damage to her frame while shielding Naoto from a counterattack. Halter deploys explosive charges to force the Black Knight into a predictable evasion path. Marie exploits the opening to transmit a data disruption signal, temporarily locking the Black Knight’s limbs. Before the team can land a decisive blow, the Black Knight self-repairs and retreats deeper into the facility. The encounter confirms that the enemy possesses automaton technology derived from the original Yatsukaru design. Marie concludes that the Black Knight acts as a guardian for the enemy’s central command unit. Naoto decides to pursue it immediately, knowing that allowing the enemy to fully deploy their forces would make reclaiming the grid impossible.
11Fragment
Naoto and Ryuzu descend into the underground power zone of the Imperial Palace and confront AnchoR. AnchoR attempts to destroy the main gear, aiming to trigger a chain collapse of Tokyo’s clockwork foundation. Naoto activates his tuning ability to forcibly stabilize the gear’s structure against the ongoing disruption. Marie remains in the control room, decoding the enemy’s interference programs to buy Naoto more time for the tuning process. Ryuzu engages AnchoR in close-quarters combat but suffers repeated blows from AnchoR’s superior speed and precision. Halte intervenes, using her own abilities to momentarily jam AnchoR’s movements and create an opening. Naoto completes a partial restoration of the gear’s integrity, preventing an immediate catastrophe. AnchoR responds by detonating part of her own frame, causing a massive shockwave and structural damage to the chamber. Ryuzu shields Naoto from the blast debris and signals a retreat for the group. Marie identifies that the enemy’s true objective was not destroying the gear but extracting core tuning data from Naoto’s live adjustments. Konrad appears on the scene, announcing the start of a new phase of assault against the defenders.
12The Last Gear
Naoto,Marie, Halter, and RyuZU reach the Grand Falls’ central axis where AnchoR guards the master gear. AnchoR activates the failsafe to shatter the gear and destroy Kyoto. Naoto uses his auditory perception to locate the exact point of fracture. RyuZU engages AnchoR in direct combat to buy time. Marie calculates the required correction while Naoto physically manipulates the gear’s teeth. Halter confronts AnchoR, appealing to her original programming to protect humanity rather than follow the destruction order. AnchoR hesitates, allowing RyuZU to disable her combat functions. Naoto and Marie realign the gear moments before the mechanism self-destructs. The shockwave halts, and Kyoto’s foundation stabilizes. In the aftermath, the group disassembles AnchoR’s combat frame but preserves her core consciousness. Naoto decides to continue traveling with Marie and the automata to address other failing planetary gears. Halter departs separately, taking AnchoR’s core to seek a way to restore her. The closing scene shows Naoto and Marie aboard a new airship, heading toward the next grid irregularity.
