Description
In a dystopian future, Japan is under the control of the GHQ, a multinational organization that took over after a catastrophic event known as the "Lost Christmas." The story centers on Shu Ouma, a high school student who lives a relatively ordinary life until he encounters Inori Yuzuriha, a member of the resistance group Funeral Parlor. Inori is on a mission to retrieve a powerful artifact called the Void Genome, which grants its user the ability to extract "Voids"—manifestations of a person's soul that take the form of unique weapons. During a confrontation with the GHQ, Shu accidentally activates the Void Genome, gaining the ability to extract and wield Voids.
Shu is drawn into the conflict between Funeral Parlor and the GHQ, led by the enigmatic Gai Tsutsugami, who seeks to liberate Japan from GHQ's oppressive rule. As Shu becomes more involved with Funeral Parlor, he discovers that his newfound power comes with significant consequences. The Voids he extracts are tied to the life force of their owners, and misuse can lead to severe repercussions, including death. Shu struggles with the moral implications of his abilities, especially as he is forced to make difficult decisions to protect those around him.
The narrative explores themes of power, responsibility, and the cost of rebellion. Shu's relationships with key characters, including Inori, Gai, and his classmates, evolve as the story progresses. Inori, who initially appears as a quiet and enigmatic figure, becomes central to Shu's journey, with her own mysterious connection to the Void Genome and the events of Lost Christmas. Gai, charismatic and driven, serves as both a mentor and a rival to Shu, pushing him to confront his fears and insecurities.
As the conflict escalates, deeper layers of the story are revealed, including the origins of the Void Genome, the true nature of the GHQ, and the events that led to Lost Christmas. The series blends action, drama, and science fiction, with a focus on the emotional and psychological struggles of its characters. The plot builds toward a climactic confrontation that forces Shu to confront the full extent of his powers and the sacrifices required to achieve his goals. The story concludes with a resolution that ties together the fates of its central characters, leaving a lasting impact on the world they inhabit.

Staffel 1
1Genesis
In 2039,Japan lives under the military administration of GHQ after the Lost Christmas outbreak ten years prior. High school student Shu Ouma avoids involvement with the resistance group Funeral Parlor. While watching a broadcast of the singer Egoist, he notices a holographic message embedded in the video. The message leads him to a collapsed section of the Arcology. There he meets a pale girl named Inori Yuzuriha, who is being pursued by GHQ soldiers. Inori carries a vial containing a crystallized genome. Shu takes the vial to protect her from the soldiers. The vial breaks and releases a crystalline substance that enters Shu’s right arm. GHQ’s anti-body unit, led by the officer Daryl Yan, surrounds the building. Inori reveals a hidden weapon and fights back, but she is wounded. Shu touches her chest and extracts a large sword from her body. This sword is a manifestation of her "void," an object shaped by her psyche. Shu uses the sword to destroy a GHQ mech. A voice in his head identifies the power as the King’s Power. After the battle, Shu carries the unconscious Inori to a waiting vehicle from Funeral Parlor. The resistance leader Gai Tsutsugami tells Shu that he now holds the power to save Japan. Shu looks at his crystallized right arm, realizing that using the power binds him to a conflict he cannot walk away from.
2Survival of the Fittest
Shu Ouma returns to his high school routine after extracting Inori Yuzuriha's void. Inori transfers into Shu's class as a new student, but she does not acknowledge their previous encounter. GHQ forces patrol the city, searching for the rebel group Funeral Parlor. Gai Tsutsugami, the leader of Funeral Parlor, contacts Shu and demands his cooperation. Shu refuses to join the group. GHQ Lieutenant Daryl Yan deploys an Endlave unit to capture Inori near the school. Shu witnesses Inori cornered by the mech. He activates his void power and extracts a void from his classmate Yahiro Samukawa. Yahiro's void manifests as a giant pair of pliers. Shu uses the pliers to destroy two Endlaves, disabling the attack. The extraction causes Yahiro to collapse unconscious. Shu returns the void to Yahiro, who revives with no memory of the event. Gai arrives and praises Shu's ability. Shu agrees to join Funeral Parlor to protect those close to him. The episode closes with Shu entering the rebels' hidden base, unaware of the physical toll repeated void extraction will exact.
3Episode 3
Shu Ouma returns to his daily school life after joining the Funeral Parlor resistance group. Inori Yuzuriha transfers into Shu's class as a new student under Gai Tsutsugami's orders. GHQ deploys an Endlave to capture Inori, forcing the school into lockdown. Shu attempts to extract Inori's void again but stops when he sees her in pain. Gai arrives and instructs Shu to extract a void from another person instead. Shu extracts a void from his class representative, Arisa Kuhouin, which manifests as a large, umbrella-like barrier. Shu uses the barrier to deflect missiles from the Endlave, protecting himself and Inori. Inori then destroys the Endlave using her own void weapon from the previous episode. After the battle, Arisa collapses from exhaustion caused by the void extraction. Shu confronts Gai about the physical toll void extraction takes on the donors. Gai dismisses Shu's concerns, stating that casualties are acceptable for the resistance's goals. Shu must decide whether to continue using others' voids or abandon his role in Funeral Parlor.
4Solution:Flux
GHQ arrests Shu Ouma on suspicion of terrorism and transports him to Isolation Facility Four. Yahiro Samukawa betrayed Shu to secure medical treatment for his younger brother Jun,who suffers from the Apocalypse Virus. Major Segai Waltz justifies GHQ's harsh measures as necessary for Japan's safety and reveals that Funeral Parlor intends to rescue a prisoner. The prisoner is Kenji Kido, a mass murderer, which plants doubt in Shu about Gai Tsutsugami's intentions. Segai gives Shu a transmitter disguised as a pen and instructs him to activate it during contact with Gai. Later that night, a disguised Gai visits Shu's cell and outlines the rescue plan for Kido. Shu refuses involvement, but Tsugumi reports that Inori Yuzuriha disobeyed orders and entered the facility alone to rescue Shu. Shu leaves his cell to save Inori, forcing Gai to alter the operation. Ayase Shinomiya protects Shu with her Endlave Steiner as he navigates the facility. Shu encounters Kenji Kido and extracts his Void, a device that manipulates gravity. Shu uses the gravity gun to disable GHQ Endlaves and reaches Inori. After the facility's destruction, Gai offers Shu membership in Funeral Parlor. Shu reluctantly agrees but conceals Segai's transmitter from Gai, preserving a secret channel to the GHQ. The episode closes with Shu holding the transmitter, caught between two opposing forces.
5A Preparation
Gai Tsutsugami orders Shu Ouma to undergo combat training with Inori Yuzuriha. Shu attempts to extract Voids from multiple Funeral Parlor members but fails to do so without direct physical contact. Inori demonstrates her own Void,a large sword, which Shu briefly wields. Ayase Shinomiya, a paraplegic Endlave pilot, runs a simulation exercise with Shu. During the simulation, Shu hesitates and cannot draw out Ayase’s Void. Gai interrupts the training and directly criticizes Shu’s lack of resolve. Shu learns that Inori previously served as a test subject in GHQ’s Void research program. Meanwhile, GHQ officer Daryl Yan deploys his anti-body unit to intercept Funeral Parlor’s upcoming operation. The team finalizes a plan to retrieve a meteorite fragment from a GHQ-controlled facility. The episode ends with the transport launching toward the mission zone while Shu watches the approaching GHQ forces with visible uncertainty.
6Leukocytes
Shu and Inori infiltrate a GHQ detention center to extract Gai. Ayase guides them remotely from a van. Shu extracts a Void from Ayase: a pair of mechanical legs that grant her flight and enhanced speed. GHQ officer Daryl Yan intercepts Shu inside the facility. Daryl extracts a Void from a captive girl, materializing a large cannon. Shu pulls a second Void from another girl, forming a transparent barrier. Daryl's cannon blast shatters the barrier. Shu uses Ayase's legs to evade the next shot and closes distance. He strikes Daryl directly, incapacitating him. Shu reaches Gai and extracts his Void: a massive arm weapon. He destroys the facility's defensive systems with one blow. The group escapes with Gai aboard a transport. Shu realizes that using Voids forces him to treat people as disposable tools. Daryl survives and swears to kill Shu personally.
13Academy:Isolation
Two weeks after the outbreak, the GHQ continues rescue operations in Tokyo. Tennouzu High School becomes a shelter for teenage refugees. Shu, Inori, Tsugumi, and Ayase stay at the school, unable to locate other Funeral Parlor members. Ayase mourns Gai's death and blames Shu and Tsugumi for stopping her from dying alongside him. The Student Council organizes a school festival to ease tensions among the refugees. Shu discovers his Void extraction power has evolved, allowing him to remove Voids without rendering people unconscious. Segai takes command of the Anti Bodies and sends Daryl undercover to spy on the school. Disgruntled refugees, supplied with a Humvee and an Endlave by Segai, attack the festival. Shu tries to move Ayase to safety, but she scolds him for treating her with pity. Ayase confesses her frustration at being unable to walk and only controlling Endlaves, then asks Shu for help. Shu extracts Ayase's Void: a pair of leg braces that let her skate across ground and jump with incredible power. Ayase and Shu stop the attackers together. Inori sings to the crowd afterward. Souta restores a TV signal and displays it on the stage screen. Shuichiro appears alive and announces himself as president of the Japanese provincial government, declaring Loop 7 sealed for ten years with no survivors.
14Election
Shu Ouma, now the student council president, declares a state of emergency at the school. He orders all students to submit to void testing and ranking. Those who refuse face expulsion or imprisonment. Ayase Shinomiya and Tsugumi lead a group of dissenters. They hide in the school's underground shelter. Shu extracts voids from compliant students to build a militia. He uses Inori Yuzuriha as his public enforcer. The dissenters plan to disable Shu's void extraction glove. Hare Menjou attempts to convince Shu to abandon his authoritarian methods. Shu refuses, stating that only absolute control can protect the school. A missile launched by the GHQ strikes the school building. Hare pushes Shu away from the blast and takes the fatal impact. Shu cradles Hare's body as her void dissolves. The missile's explosion destroys part of the building and injures several students. Shu screams in despair, losing his composure. The resistance members escape through the shelter's exit. Shu's breakdown leaves the school's defense in disarray as GHQ forces prepare a ground assault.
15Confession
Shu Ouma orders the students of Roppongi Academy to line up for mandatory void extraction. Yahiro Samukawa manages the operation, assigning void ranks to each extracted subject. Shu extracts voids by force, leaving red crystal marks on the students' bodies. Hare Menjou opposes Shu's methods but fails to change his decisions. Shu uses a void that allows him to control another person's body. He forces a captured GHQ soldier to reveal information about the Daath organization. Shu confronts Inori Yuzuriha in the greenhouse. Inori reveals that she is a clone of Mana Ouma, Shu's deceased sister. She states that Mana's consciousness resides within her body. Shu denies the truth and demands that Inori remain as she appears. Arisa Kuhouin begins planning a rebellion against Shu's regime. Shu receives a telephone call from a person identifying himself as Gai Tsutsugai.
16Crucible
Shu Ouma imposes a mandatory void extraction program on all students at the school. He ranks voids by combat utility and assigns students to military duties accordingly. Ayase Shinomiya confronts Shu,questioning his disregard for individual rights. Shu responds that the fight against GHQ requires absolute efficiency and threatens to forcibly extract any dissenter's void. Inori Yuzuriha continues to support Shu, but she experiences moments of hesitation when witnessing his harsh methods. The student population divides into supporters who obey and resistors who secretly plan to escape. Several students attempt to flee the school grounds but are captured by Shu's enforcers and subjected to public void ranking demotions. Yahiro Samukawa designs a surveillance system to monitor dissent and reports suspicious individuals directly to Shu. GHQ mobilizes a new weapon codenamed 'Da'ath' in response to Shu's expansion and the loss of their orbital satellite. A GHQ commander issues an ultimatum demanding Shu's surrender within twenty-four hours. The episode closes with Shu ordering all combat-ready students to arm themselves for a preemptive strike against the GHQ's incoming force.
18Ryou
Shu Ouma implements a mandatory Void registration system across Tokyo. Citizens must report to testing centers and surrender their Voids for state classification. Shu justifies the policy as necessary to prevent another outbreak of the Apocalypse Virus. Ayase Shinomiya refuses to register her Void. She escapes the registration center with Tsugumi's remote assistance. Tsugumi hacks the security network to disable tracking devices. Shu dispatches the Anti-Bodies unit to capture Ayase. Gai Kujo reappears in front of Shu during the pursuit. Gai survived the destruction of the GHQ school ship. He carries a new Void weapon. Gai attacks Shu and bypasses his defenses. He forcibly extracts the Void Genome from Shu's right arm. Shu loses the ability to draw Voids from others. The extraction causes Shu's right arm to crystallize and shatter. Inori Yuzuriha shields Shu from further attacks and carries him away. Gai declares his intention to reclaim the power of the Voids for his own plan. The registration system stops functioning without Shu's command. Ayase and the remaining resistance members regroup. Gai takes control of the Void Genome and prepares to confront Mana's growing influence. Shu,now powerless and injured, faces an uncertain future with Inori by his side.
19Redemption
Shu Ouma implements a mandatory void extraction system across the student population. He uses the Void Genome to brand each person with a ranking number based on their void's combat value. Students who resist extraction face public punishment. Arisa Kuhouin orders her security forces to suppress a protest in the school courtyard. Ayase Shinomiya and Tsugumi flee the campus with a group of defectors. They seek refuge with the Anti-Bodies,now commanded by Daryl Yan. Daryl agrees to provide shelter in exchange for intelligence on Shu's operation. Inori Yuzuriha remains at Shu's side but shows visible distress during his speeches. She begins to sing a song that spreads through the city's broadcast system. The song triggers an unexplained reaction in the infected population. Gai Tsutsugami appears on the deck of a large vessel approaching Tokyo. He announces his intent to take the Void Genome from Shu by force.
20Recollection: A Diary
Mana Ouma nearly completes her possession of Inori Yuzuriha's body as Gai Tsutsugami announces the Apocalypse Virus will trigger a global extinction event on December 25th. Shibungi, released from captivity, gives Shu Ouma his father Kurosu's journal, which reveals the origins of the Apocalypse Virus. In 2013, Professor Shuichiro Keido researches Genomic Resonance and befriends fellow scientist Kurosu Ouma. After a meteorite crashes in 2022, they discover a virus inside that reacts to Genomic Resonance. The organization Daath sends a representative named Yuu, who reveals the virus will trigger an Apocalypse and orders Kurosu not to abort Mana's unborn brother Shu, whom Mana has chosen as her mate. Saeko dies giving birth to Shu, and a jealous Shuichiro joins Daath, experimenting on children to find a suitable mate for Mana. Kurosu later marries Haruka, and Shuichiro adopts Gai Tsutsugami, subjecting him to experiments until Mana and Shu rescue him. On the day of the Lost Christmas incident, Shuichiro kills Kurosu after learning Kurosu developed a cure using the Void Genome. In the present, Haruka explains that every Void Shu extracts contains pieces of Mana, which allows Mana to invade Inori's body. Shu attempts to return everyone's Voids to prevent their deaths if he dies, but the group refuses and instead joins a joint assault on GHQ. Shu forgives Souta's betrayal as the resistance forces prepare to attack GHQ headquarters.
21Excision
Gai Tsutsugami initiates the third outbreak of the Apocalypse Virus over Tokyo. Shu Ouma and his remaining allies move to intercept Gai at the Da'ath research facility. Gai reveals that Mana Ouma's consciousness controls him and that his goal is to crystallize all humanity. Shu attempts to draw voids from his companions, but the Void Genome in his right arm becomes unstable. Crystallization spreads from Shu's arm to his body, causing him severe pain. Inori Yuzuriha, still under Gai's control, attacks Shu directly. Shu refuses to harm Inori and hesitates to use his void against her. Gai extracts the entire Void Genome from Shu's right hand, leaving Shu powerless and his arm crystallized. Daryl Yan confronts his father, General Yan, and shoots him dead after a brief struggle. Shu, now blind in one eye and missing his void ability, declares he will still stop Gai. Gai orders Inori to follow him deeper into the facility as the virus spread accelerates across the city.
22Rapture
Shu confronts Gai at the Ark as Gai merges with the Apocalypse Virus to trigger the Fourth Apocalypse. Shu extracts voids from every student, forming a massive arm to strike Gai. Inori takes the virus's crystal core into her own body. Shu uses Inori's void, a great sword, to sever Gai's connection to the virus. Gai dissolves, acknowledging Shu's resolve. The virus crystals run out of control. Shu absorbs all crystals into his right hand and eye. His right arm crystallizes completely, and he loses his eyesight. Inori's body crystallizes and crumbles into particles. Shu survives but becomes blind and relies on a cane. Months later, he meets Ayase and others in rebuilt Tokyo. Shu, now blind and without his powers, faces an uncertain future as Inori's song plays and her ghostly form appears beside him.
