Description
Kanon Kusama is a minor supporting character in the anime Guilty Crown. She is seventeen years old and a classmate of the protagonist, Shu Ouma, attending Tennouzu First High School where she serves as the chairman of class 2-A. In terms of personality, Kanon is depicted as having a serious and mature demeanor, which is fitting for her role as class representative. She initially holds a negative opinion of Shu, finding him disagreeable or troublesome. This early animosity is solidified during a specific incident when Shu, while attempting to extract her Void, accidentally gropes her, leading her to angrily accuse him of sexual harassment and remain upset with him for the entire day.
Despite this rocky start, Kanon's attitude toward Shu gradually softens. As the series progresses, she begins to accept him due to his subsequent actions and apologies. In the credits of the Departures feature, Shu is shown bowing repeatedly to apologize, and in response, Kanon ultimately forgives him. Her role in the story is primarily that of a background student, providing a perspective on the events unfolding at the school. She expresses concern and confusion when Shu is arrested by the GHQ, going so far as to ask a teacher for answers, though none are forthcoming. She also shows an interest when the mysterious Inori Yuzuriha transfers into their class.
Kanon maintains key relationships with her fellow students, including her friends Hare Menjou and Souta, with whom she discusses the situation following Shu's arrest. She possesses a notable ability in the form of a Void, a physical manifestation of a person's heart that can be extracted by someone possessing the Power of the King. Kanon's Void takes the form of a pair of glasses or a single-lens eyepiece. Its power is named Acquaintance's Sight, granting the user radar-like tracking and reconnaissance capabilities that function similarly to clairvoyance or a searching mechanism. She is one of the many students who survive the series' events and remains an observer within the school community, assisting her classmates in non-combat, logistical ways, such as helping friends retrieve lost luggage.
