Kazuhiko Inoue
Description
Kazuhiko Inoue is a highly esteemed Japanese voice actor, narrator, and sound director, born on March 26, 1954, in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. He began his career in 1973 and has since become one of the most recognized and enduring figures in the anime industry. He is the founder and president of the voice acting agency and school B-Box.
Inoue's career spans over five decades, with his first major recognition coming from his role as Anthony in the 1976 series Candy Candy. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, he established himself with leading roles in numerous classic series, including Joe Shimamura (009) in the 1979 version of Cyborg 009, Akira Kogane in Beast King GoLion, Rom Stol in Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos, Jerid Messa in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and Eiji Asuka in Blue Comet SPT Layzner.
He is renowned for his wide vocal range and versatility, allowing him to portray a vast array of characters. This range is evident in some of his most iconic roles. He brings a relaxed, charismatic charm to Kakashi Hatake in the long-running Naruto series. He delivers a powerful and menacing performance as the vampire progenitor Kars in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. In stark contrast, he provides the voice for the comical, sake-loving, yet powerful feline spirit Nyanko-sensei (Madara) in the heartwarming Natsume's Book of Friends, a role for which he won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 3rd Seiyu Awards in 2009. He has also taken on the role of the legendary swordsman Yoriichi Tsugikuni in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Other significant performances include the villainous Touichirou Suzuki in Mob Psycho 100, the powerful mage Gildarts Clive in Fairy Tail, Eiri Yuki in Gravitation, and Willy Tybur in Attack on Titan The Final Season. Following the passing of fellow voice actor Kaneto Shiozawa, Inoue took over the role of Detective Ninzaburo Shiratori in the long-running series Detective Conan. His filmography is extensive, also including roles in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners as Faraday, RWBY: Ice Queendom as Professor Ozpin, and the father in Osomatsu-san.
Beyond acting, Inoue has also worked as a sound director on series such as Mōryō no Hako and Kindaichi Case Files. He is also active in music, having released several albums and frequently performs at events for the Harukanaru Toki no Naka de franchise. He is the official dubbing voice for actors Matthew Fox and Mads Mikkelsen in Japanese-language versions of foreign films.
