Description
Kuraha is a shinki serving the war god Bishamonten. In his human appearance he is a tall older man with gray hair, a scruffy gray beard and mustache, and typically wears the black suit with red details and a purple tie that marks Bishamonten’s battle shinki. His right eye was injured during a fight with the god Yato, leaving him with an eyepatch in human form.

His temperament is steady and calm, and he commands deep respect among his fellow shinki through his experience and composed presence. Despite his dignified bearing, bonus stories occasionally show a lighter, humorous side to his personality, revealing that he is not without moments of levity.

As a shinki his motivation is rooted in loyalty to Bishamonten. He serves as her protector and ally, and his actions are guided by a desire to support her in battle and safeguard her well‑being.

Kuraha’s role in the story is that of a supporting member of Bishamonten’s large household of shinki. He participates in her battles, including the initial clashes with Yato and the larger conflicts that follow. He is one of the rare shinki who can take the form of a living creature rather than a weapon or tool. When called by the name Kinki he transforms into an enormous lion, allowing Bishamonten to ride him into combat. This ability sets him apart from most of his peers and makes him a valuable asset in direct engagements.

His key relationships center on his god and the other shinki under her command. He shares a bond of duty with all of them, and he is especially close to the group as one of the most seasoned members. He is also one of three shinki known to assume living‑creature forms, alongside Kiun and Shiiho; all three suffer wounds to their shinki bodies that leave permanent marks in their human appearances.

In terms of development, the most visible change is the scar to his human form after losing an eye in the confrontation with Yato. While the series does not portray a dramatic inner transformation for him, that injury becomes a lasting physical reminder of his service and the risks he takes for his god. His notable ability remains his transformation into a lion, a power that gives Bishamonten mobility and a fearsome mount when she rides into pursuit.
