Description
Marquis Glenn is one of the Seven Heroes, a group of warriors celebrated for supposedly defeating the evil nation of Wischtech twenty years before the main story. He is the son of the Emperor and serves as the Emperor’s envoy, wielding significant political and military authority within the Szaalenden Empire. In truth, Glenn and six other heroes betrayed and murdered four of their comrades—including the blade master Ascheriit—after the real victory, then took credit for the mission. The four slain warriors were branded the Lances of Betrayal, while the seven became living legends.

Glenn is a rational and calculating individual who prioritizes order and the stability of the Empire above all else. He chose to side with the Empire’s interests even when that meant committing acts of profound betrayal against his own friends. His decision was not driven by petty self-preservation but by a conviction that the Empire’s continued existence justified any cost. However, he also harbored deep envy toward Ascheriit’s exceptional swordsmanship and calm demeanor, a resentment that festered beneath his composed exterior. He acknowledged the brutality of his actions and believed that the true punishment for the Seven Heroes was not death but the endless burden of upholding the Empire as its symbols.

As the central antagonist, Glenn is the primary target of Köinzell’s revenge—Köinzell being Ascheriit reborn. Their conflict drives much of the plot. Glenn initially treats Köinzell with what appears to be mercy, sparing him publicly during their first encounter. In their second confrontation, Köinzell kills Glenn outright, and his body crumbles to dust. This death sends the Emperor into deep grief and indirectly allows other nobles to seize power. Later, through unknown means, Glenn is resurrected in a younger body, bearing the scar from Köinzell’s fatal blow. He returns with a mysterious plan to combat human weakness and seeks to destroy the corrupt noble Lebellond, renouncing his title among the Seven Heroes.

Glenn’s key relationships are defined by rivalry and betrayal. His bond with Ascheriit was once one of camaraderie during the Fourteen Lances, but envy and ambition turned it into a deadly feud. He also stands at the center of the Seven Heroes, whose shared guilt binds them together even as they descend into internal conflict. His resurrection and subsequent actions in the sequel, Übel Blatt II: Knights of the Fallen King, cast a long shadow over the Empire, as a faction known as the Dead King’s Knights carries his legacy.

In terms of development, Glenn evolves from an admired and seemingly virtuous hero into a figure of tragic moral compromise. His death is portrayed as both an act of vengeance and a collapse of the Empire’s foundational lie. His resurrection, on the other hand, presents him as a persistent force whose ideals—however flawed—refuse to be extinguished.

Glenn is a highly skilled swordsman and a capable military commander. He is also a shrewd politician, able to navigate the Empire’s power structures with ease. After his resurrection, he gains a younger body and continues to demonstrate formidable combat prowess, though the full extent of any new abilities remains tied to the circumstances of his return.
