Description
Kuraha is one of Bishamonten's shinki, an experienced regalia who has served the war god for a long time. In human form, he appears as a tall older man with gray hair, a scruffy gray beard, and an eyepatch. He wears the signature black suit with red detailing and a purple tie common among Bishamonten's battle shinki. His demeanor is generally calm and serious, earning him steady respect from his peers, but when his master is endangered he becomes fiercely protective and aggressive. Kuraha's loyalty to Bishamonten is absolute; he habitually calls her "Miss" and acts as both a reliable guardian and a gentle playmate to the many child shinki in the household, who are very fond of him.

Kuraha's primary role is that of a transport and tracking specialist. By invoking his weapon name, Kinki, he transforms into a huge lion that Bishamonten rides into battle. His heightened sense of smell allows him to trace enemies over long distances, and in his beast form he can fight independently, rending foes with claws and fangs. Unusually for a shinki, his sacred treasure form is a living creature rather than an inanimate object, a trait he shares with only a few others such as Kiun and Shiiho. During the events of the story, he sustains damage to that lion body which permanently scars his human form, a mark of his frontline service.

Kuraha's motivations are grounded in his unwavering devotion to Bishamonten. He strives to protect her from ayakashi, hostile gods, and any other threats, and to maintain the stability of her large family of shinki. He does not undergo a dramatic personal transformation over the course of the narrative, but his steadfastness and the quiet bond he shares with his master highlight themes of loyalty and found family. His notable abilities—the transformation into a powerful lion, remarkable olfactory tracking, and the sheer physical might of his beast form—make him a vital and formidable presence among Bishamonten's forces.
