TV-Series
Description
Kagetoki Kajiwara acts as both magistrate and military commander for the Genji forces, bearing the title Chi no Byakko (Earth's White Tiger) as one of the Eight Guardians sworn to protect the Priestess. He serves loyally as a retainer to Minamoto no Yoritomo, navigating a complex position within the command structure.

His expertise lies in onmyōdō (yin-yang magic), which he channels through specialized gun-like implements during combat, distinguishing his mystical approach despite his soldier's role. He projects a deliberately frivolous and ostentatious persona, often appearing showy, yet beneath this lies a fundamentally cautious and observant nature. Kagetoki displays sharp attentiveness to interpersonal dynamics and holds a strong value for peace.

His core motivation stems from family: he is the elder brother of Kajiwara Saku, the Priestess of the Black Dragon (Kokuryū no Miko). This relationship drives profound protectiveness and concern for her well-being, shaping his decisions and actions throughout the conflict. Saku's connection to the opposing dragon deity introduces underlying tension within his loyalties.

In gameplay, Kagetoki functions as a ranged combatant capable of attacking enemies in the rear ranks during turn-based battles, possessing a Metal elemental affinity. Building affinity bonds with the protagonist, Nozomi Kasuga, unlocks specific magical abilities essential for progression. Achieving sufficient affinity levels with fellow Guardians enables powerful combination attacks, reflecting deepened camaraderie.

His narrative path undergoes significant development in the expansion *Izayoiki*. Completing his route leads to an ending where he betrays his lord, Yoritomo, to protect Nozomi, ultimately traveling with her back to her modern world. The circumstances enabling his survival and transition remain unexplained within the main storyline.

Kagetoki returns as a playable character in the canonical sequel *Unmei no Labyrinth* (Labyrinth of Fate), retaining his core characteristics with a new visual design. Securing his ending requires fulfilling specific route conditions during a key event (the Christmas party in Chapter 2). He maintains his combat role, gaining a unique ability relevant to navigating the labyrinth.

He appears in the animated special *Owarinaki Unmei*, maintaining his role within the Genji forces and his position among the Eight Guardians protecting Nozomi.
