TV-Series
Description
Günter von Christ is a prominent character from the anime, serving as the royal adviser, teacher, and guardian to the newly proclaimed Demon King. He is a member of the Mazoku, or demon tribe, and holds the distinguished position of being one of the Ten Aristocrats, the highest noble families in the kingdom of Shin Makoku. He is the adoptive father of Gisela von Christ.

In terms of appearance, Günter is renowned throughout the kingdom as being exceptionally handsome, with light grey or white hair and striking violet eyes. His personality is a study in contrasts, as he frequently oscillates between two distinct modes of behavior. On a daily basis, he is dramatic, whimsical, and highly expressive, particularly regarding his intense devotion to the young king, Yuuri Shibuya. He has a tendency to pine for Yuuri dramatically whenever the king is away from the castle, and he can become quite flustered or emotional in his presence. He is also known to be a frequent and unwilling test subject for the eccentric inventor Anissina, alongside his peer Gwendal von Voltaire.

However, this flamboyant exterior masks a deeply serious, capable, and highly intelligent individual. When a situation demands it, Günter becomes a pillar of reliability, able to be counted upon in any emergency. He adopts a completely serious and awe-inspiring demeanor when his expertise as a strategist, adviser, or fighter is required, demonstrating that his frivolous behavior is a choice rather than a lack of competence.

Günter’s primary role in the story is that of a mentor to Yuuri. He is responsible for educating the new Demon King on the history, politics, and customs of Shin Makoku, as well as training him in the use of his nascent magical abilities. Beyond his teaching duties, he is a key member of Yuuri's inner circle, helping the king run the country alongside the three half-brothers: Gwendal, Conrart, and Wolfram. He has a notable history as an instructor at a military academy two decades before the main events of the story, where he was the teacher who instructed Conrart Weller to become the king's "sword and shield".

His key relationships are defined by his loyalty to the crown. His attachment to Yuuri is the most defining aspect of his character, evolving from a purely political duty into a deep, personal, and somewhat theatrical affection. He shares a professional yet exasperated relationship with Gwendal, as they both often find themselves as victims of Anissina's inventions. He is also fiercely protective of his adopted daughter, Gisela.

Günter experiences significant development throughout the series, primarily in his political and moral worldview. Initially, he is one of the strongest proponents of a war that would exterminate humanity, reflecting the long-standing anti-human sentiment among the Mazoku nobility. However, through constant exposure to Yuuri's unwavering pacifism and his desire for a peaceful alliance between demons and humans, Günter undergoes a radical change. He comes to genuinely believe in his king's ideals and diligently works towards the goal of a peaceful co-existence, demonstrating a capacity for growth and adaptation that is a testament to his loyalty and intelligence.

In terms of abilities, Günter is consistently described as one of the most powerful and skilled individuals in Shin Makoku. He is a master swordsman of the highest caliber, possessing the ability to defeat multiple trained soldiers with a single sweep of his uniquely designed sword. Equally formidable is his skill in majutsu, or magic, where he is proficient in all the classical elements. On the rare occasion he travels to Earth, his remarkable good looks allowed him to find quick success as a fashion model in New York City. Despite his many talents, he has notable eccentricities, including being tone-deaf, a tendency to get naked and dance when intoxicated, and a secretly lazy side when he believes no one is watching.
