Scott Freeman
Description
Scott Freeman is an American former voice actor known for his work in anime dubs produced by Funimation in the early 2010s. Born Scott Justin Freeman on June 20, 1979, in Dallas, Texas, he was active in the voice acting industry from approximately 2006 until his career ended in 2015.
Freeman was primarily associated with Funimation, providing voices for numerous English-language adaptations of anime series. He was frequently cast in roles for supporting characters and protagonists in a wide range of genres. One of his most recognized roles was voicing the character of England in the popular and long-running anime series Hetalia. He first took on this role in Hetalia: Axis Powers and continued to voice the character in subsequent installments, including Hetalia World Series and Hetalia: The Beautiful World, as well as the film Hetalia Axis Powers: Paint it, White!. His portrayal of England was his initial major role with the company after he replaced the originally cast actor before the dub's public release.
He also secured several lead roles in other prominent series. Freeman voiced Yuuji Sakamoto, the deuteragonist of the comedy series Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts, appearing in the first season, the second season, and the OVA. He played the role of Issei Hyoudou, the main character, in the first two seasons of the supernatural series High School DxD. In the romantic comedy B Gata H Kei - Yamada's First Time, he voiced Takashi Kosuda. His other significant roles included Hayato Narita in We Without Wings - Under the Innocent Sky, Pierce Aogami in A Certain Magical Index II, Shusei Kagari in Psycho-Pass, and Rick in the series TO. He also had supporting parts in long-running series such as One Piece and Fairy Tail.
Freeman's career came to an abrupt end following his arrest in April 2014 on charges related to child pornography. In response to the charges, Funimation terminated its relationship with him. He later pleaded guilty to eight counts of possession of child pornography in July 2015 and was sentenced to three years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Following his conviction, all of his ongoing and previous roles were subsequently recast with other voice actors in later media, such as Josh Grelle taking over as Issei Hyoudou in High School DxD. Freeman was paroled in 2018, effectively ending his career as a voice actor.
