Description
Kengo Usui is a first-year student at Tenbi Academy and a supporting character in the story. He is a member of the Student Council Security Division and stands approximately 168 centimeters tall. As a close friend and classmate of the protagonist Takeru Ooyama, Kengo is often found alongside him, and the two share a reputation around campus as a pair of troublesome perverts.
Kengo has a playful, mischievous, and openly lecherous personality. He is highly envious of Takeru's living situation, sharing a room with three girls, and frequently teams up with another student, Uruchi Minaya, to concoct schemes aimed at disrupting Takeru's "harem" lifestyle. Despite his often out-of-control antics, which earn him harsh punishments from the female members of the Maken-Ki, he possesses a strong sense of justice and a more sensitive side. He has a notable weakness for women's tears and cannot tolerate seeing a boy make a girl cry, demonstrating an ability to read the mood and act seriously when the situation calls for it. One of his primary motivations is his deep infatuation with his classmate Kodama Himegami, and he aspires to become her boyfriend.
Kengo's role in the narrative is primarily as a comedic foil and partner-in-crime to Takeru. Their friendship is formed almost immediately after they bond over attempting to spy on girls during a physical examination. As the only two male members of the Maken-Ki, they tend to suffer the consequences of their perverted schemes together. While he is Takeru's ally, he also acts as a check on him, calling him out when he believes Takeru has made a girl cry. In addition to his rivalry and camaraderie with Takeru and Uruchi, his key relationships include his one-sided love for Kodama Himegami.
In terms of development, a major revelation occurs in the original manga where Kengo's background is explored. He is revealed to be a clone of the powerful figure Yamato Takeru, originally designated as Sample 0-01. Created as a potential vessel, he managed to escape from the facility where he was held as a child. This origin connects him to Gouken Yamato, another clone who shares his unique traits.
Regarding his notable abilities, Kengo wields an internal-type Maken called Point Man. This power allows him to instantly swap the position of any object he touches with that of another object, including swapping his own location. Furthermore, due to his nature as a clone, he possesses a rare physiological trait known as an Element Canceller. This ability grants him the power to completely nullify elemental-based attacks or supernatural powers upon contact, a skill he shares with only one other clone.
