Description
Hare Menjō is a student at Tennozu High School and a classmate of Shu Ouma, having attended the same school with him since middle school. She lives in the same apartment block as Shu and is also a member of the school's Motion Picture Research Club.

Hare has a kind and carefree personality, often worrying about Shu’s social standing and scolding him for being insensitive or dense. Despite her innocent demeanor, she has a rather bold side; she is openly disappointed when Shu accidentally touches another girl while trying to extract her Void, remarking that she would have gladly let him do so. She is noticeably jealous of Inori Yuzuriha, viewing her as a romantic rival for Shu’s affection, a fact that Inori never seems to acknowledge. Hare’s loyalty to Shu is unwavering, and she maintains faith in him even when others turn against him. However, she is not without pride; when a grieving Shu attempts to kiss her as a substitute for Inori, she rejects him, recognizing that he is only using her to fill a void.

Her primary motivation stems from her deep, unrequited love for Shu. She believes in his potential to become a great leader, specifically a "kind king," a concept from a fairy tale that she cherished as a child and that she sees reflected in Shu’s compassionate nature. This belief drives her to support him constantly, both emotionally and practically. Within the story, Hare acts as a grounding presence for Shu, representing normalcy and unconditional personal affection. As the narrative grows darker and Shu assumes leadership of the students, Hare remains a steadfast confidante. Her role becomes pivotal during a crisis when her Void, known as Lover's Bandages, is used to save Shu’s life.

Hare’s Void manifests as a long, white, segmented strip that wraps around the user’s arm. Its power is the ability to repair physical objects and heal injuries, a reflection of her inherently caring and restorative nature. When Shu first extracted her Void, he described its sensation as being warm, like Hare herself. The Void has a numeric ranking of 1830 or 1832, signifying its considerable potency.

Throughout the series, Hare develops from a cheerful classmate with a crush into a figure of tragic sacrifice. After Shu is elected class president and the school comes under attack, he and Hare are both fatally injured in an explosion. Though critically wounded, Hare uses her Void to revive Shu, transferring her remaining life energy to him. As she completes the healing, a helicopter destroys her Void, causing her body to rapidly crystallize and shatter, a fatal effect of the Apocalypse Virus. In her final moments, she professes her love for Shu. Her death serves as a critical turning point, emotionally devastating Shu and contributing directly to his subsequent descent into tyranny. Her idolized image of Shu as the "kind king" is tragically realized only later, after his redemption. Her name, Menjō Hare, contains the character for "festival" (matsuri), and the series' finale shows her friends gathering years later to celebrate her birthday.
