John Swasey is an American voice actor, ADR director, and script writer known for his extensive work in English-language dubs of Japanese anime series. Born John Allan Swasey on October 18, 1964, in Houston, Texas, he graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, with a degree in theater in 1987. His professional acting career began in live-action roles, including a brief appearance as a beer delivery guy in the 1993 film Dazed and Confused, before transitioning into voice acting.

Swasey entered the anime voice acting industry in 1997 with his debut role as the Director in episode six of the series Golden Boy for ADV Films in his hometown of Houston. This marked the beginning of a prolific career where he would become a staple voice for dubbing studios such as ADV Films, Funimation, and Sentai Filmworks. Over the years, his deep and resonant voice has become particularly associated with authoritative figures, mentors, and complex antagonists.

He is widely recognized for several major roles that have defined his career. He is the English voice of Gendo Ikari in the various iterations of Neon Genesis Evangelino, including the original ADV dub and the Rebuild of Evangelion films.
