Description
In a near-future world devastated by a parasitic virus, humanity faces extinction as monstrous creatures known as Gastrea emerge, driving survivors into fortified cities. These cities are protected by Monoliths, a special material resistant to Gastrea. However, the virus also infects humans, creating Cursed Children—young girls with superhuman abilities and Gastrea DNA. Despite their powers, these children are ostracized and feared by society.

The story centers on Rentaro Satomi, a young Civil Security Officer tasked with protecting Tokyo Area from Gastrea threats. Rentaro works alongside Enju Aihara, a Cursed Child and his Initiator, who enhances his combat abilities through a symbiotic partnership. Together, they undertake missions to eliminate Gastrea and maintain order. Rentaro is driven by a desire to avenge his family, who were killed by Gastrea, and to protect Enju, whom he deeply cares for despite societal prejudice.

As the narrative progresses, Rentaro and Enju uncover a conspiracy involving the Gastrea virus and the government’s secretive experiments. They encounter other Civil Security Officers and Cursed Children, each with their own struggles and motivations. Key figures include Kisara Tendo, Rentaro’s childhood friend and the head of the Tendo Civil Security Agency, and Kagetane Hiruko, a rogue Initiator with a mysterious agenda. The series explores themes of discrimination, survival, and the ethical dilemmas surrounding the use of Cursed Children as weapons.

The plot intensifies as Rentaro and his allies face increasingly powerful Gastrea and uncover the truth behind the virus’s origins. The story delves into the moral complexities of a world where humanity’s survival depends on exploiting those it fears and despises. Through battles, betrayals, and personal sacrifices, Rentaro and Enju strive to protect their fragile world while grappling with their own identities and the harsh realities of their existence. The series balances action, emotional depth, and a dystopian setting to present a compelling narrative about resilience and the cost of survival.

1Tokyo Depths
In the year 2031,humanity contends with the Gastrea, a parasitic virus that transforms infected organisms into monstrous creatures. Rentaro Satomi, a promoter working for the civil security corporation Tendo Civil Security, receives an assignment alongside his initiator, the young Enju Aihara. They travel to a restricted area in Tokyo where a Gastrea has been detected. Enju, who carries the Gastrea virus but retains her human form, demonstrates her combat abilities by rapidly dispatching several small Gastrea with her enhanced speed and strength. Rentaro, equipped with mechanical prosthetic limbs, provides support. After the mission, they report to Sumire Muroto, a scientist who maintains Rentaro’s prosthetics. Rentaro learns that the government has cut funding for the area’s defense, leaving civilians vulnerable. Later, Rentaro and Enju encounter Kisara Tendo, Rentaro’s former childhood friend and the head of Tendo Civil Security, who coldly reminds him of his debts to her family. A large Gastrea, a Kagetane, appears and begins attacking. Rentaro orders Enju to engage it, but the creature overwhelms her with superior speed. Rentaro activates his prosthetic arm’s hidden mechanism, a high-caliber firearm, and fires a specialized bullet that forces the Gastrea to retreat. In the aftermath, Rentaro learns that the Gastrea was deliberately released by a human criminal organization seeking to exploit the chaos. The episode closes with Rentaro and Enju preparing for further confrontations, aware that their enemies now include not only the Gastrea but also humans who wield them as weapons.
2Episode 2
Rentaro Satomi and Enju Aihara accept a mission from the Tendo Civil Security Agency to retrieve a briefcase containing Gastrea cells from a restricted zone. They travel to the outer perimeter, where Enju’s enhanced senses detect signs of Gastrea activity. Soldiers at a checkpoint refuse to let Enju pass because she is a cursed child, forcing Rentaro to negotiate entry. Inside the zone, they encounter Ikaruga Sumire, a promoter from a rival agency, who seeks the same briefcase for monetary reward. Sumire orders her initiator, Miori, to attack Enju, initiating a physical confrontation. Rentaro uses his mechanical arm and combat training to shield Enju while she counters Miori’s assault. During the struggle, Sumire damages the briefcase, but Rentaro retrieves the intact sample container before retreating. Kisara Tendo criticizes Rentaro for the equipment loss, though she acknowledges the sample’s recovery. Enju faces continued prejudice from agency staff, and Rentaro reaffirms his commitment to protecting her despite social hostility. A military report reveals a large Gastrea swarm moving toward the monolith barriers, setting the stage for an imminent large-scale incursion.
3The Boy and the Girl
Rentaro and Enju shop at a supermarket. Rentaro buys a hairpin for Enju, intending it as a gift. They encounter Tina Sprout, a foreign cursed child who speaks Japanese fluently and displays exceptional physical abilities. Tina leaves after a brief interaction. Later, Kisara assigns Rentaro and Enju a mission to escort a school bus carrying children to a shelter during a Gastrea outbreak. On the bus, a Gastrea attacks, and Rentaro engages it outside the vehicle. While he fights, Tina ambushes Enju inside the bus, revealing herself as an assassin sent to kill Rentaro. Enju transforms into a cursed child to fight Tina but is overpowered and wounded. Rentaro returns to find Enju injured and Tina standing over her. Tina states that she operates under orders from the Nogi Group’s rival, the Ikaruga Group. Rentaro confronts Tina, demanding her motives while Enju lies incapacitated. The episode ends with Rentaro preparing to fight Tina, who has already proven capable of defeating Enju in direct combat.
4Black Bullet
Rentaro Satomi and Enju Aihara receive a new assignment to serve as bodyguards for the Seitenshi during a high-level political assembly. The Seitenshi announces a new initiative to integrate cursed children into society, drawing immediate opposition from several factions. The Tendō family representative publicly accuses Rentaro of collaborating with Gastrea terrorists during the previous incident. Kisara Tendō counters by presenting evidence of the Tendō family's secret Gastrea breeding experiments, revealing her brother’s role in orchestrating the attacks that killed her parents. The assembly erupts into chaos as the accusations force the Tendō family to retreat. After the assembly, Rentaro confronts Kisara about her willingness to expose her own family. Kisara states her motivation is to sever ties with the Tendō legacy and to pursue her own path alongside Rentaro. A Gastrea attack targets the Seitenshi’s convoy moments later. Rentaro and Enju engage the creature, but Rentaro’s mechanical arm malfunctions due to a hidden fail-safe installed by his adoptive father. Enju uses her cursed child abilities to destroy the Gastrea, sustaining injuries in the process. Rentaro carries Enju back, acknowledging that the fail-safe proves his adoptive father intended to control or eliminate him. Rentaro resolves to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy against him and the Seitenshi, setting the stage for a direct confrontation with the Tendō family's remaining assets.
5紅黒の暗殺者
Rentaro and Enju escort Seitenshi to a public ceremony, but a sniper’s bullet forces them into cover. Rentaro identifies the attacker’s position and pursues, leaving Enju to guard Seitenshi. The sniper, a cursed child named Kohina, reveals she was hired by the Anti-Progressionists to kill Seitenshi. Rentaro hesitates to harm a child, allowing Kohina to escape after she detonates explosives. Meanwhile, Kisara learns from the Civil Security Corp that the assassination attempt was orchestrated to discredit the Tendo family. Rentaro confronts Kisara about her family’s possible involvement, and she admits her brother holds a grudge against Seitenshi. The Tendo family dispatches assassins to eliminate Rentaro, forcing him and Enju to flee. Rentaro decides to hide at the Iina family estate, seeking protection from Sumire. The episode closes with Kisara declaring her intent to destroy the Tendo family from within, directly opposing her brother.
6Tragedy of the Dead
Rentaro and Enju accompany Kisara to a memorial ceremony for the reconstruction of the Tokyo Area. Seitenshi delivers a public address while民警 units secure the perimeter. Tina Sprout, who recently transferred to the same branch office as Rentaro, joins the security detail as a sniper positioned on a nearby rooftop. During the ceremony, a swarm of Gastrea breaches the defensive line and charges the crowd. Rentaro engages the creatures on the ground while Tina provides overwatch from her post. After the initial Gastrea are neutralized, Tina redirects her rifle toward Seitenshi and fires. Rentaro detects the trajectory and pushes Seitenshi out of the line of fire, taking a grazing wound to his arm. Tina abandons her position and escapes into the city. Kisara orders a pursuit, and Rentaro tracks Tina to an abandoned warehouse. Tina reveals she was planted by the Aldebaran organization to assassinate Seitenshi and admits she followed orders without personal malice. She activates her mechanized combat suit and engages Rentaro in close combat. Rentaro uses his Varanium-coated limbs to counter her enhanced speed and ultimately pins her down. He hesitates to deliver a fatal blow, recalling their previous interactions. Kisara arrives with reinforcements and takes Tina into custody. She reprimands Rentaro for his indecision, warning that his sentimentality endangers their mission. Seitenshi survives the attack, but the incident exposes critical security gaps in the民警 command structure. Rentaro now faces both the political fallout from the attempted assassination and the unresolved question of how deep Aldebaran’s infiltration runs.
8The Mound Where the Gods Sleep
Rentaro Satomi and Enju Aihara travel to the Izu Islands to retrieve a stolen monolith. They discover that local villagers have taken the monolith to weaken the barrier. The villagers sacrifice Cursed Children to a giant Gastrea living in a mound. The Gastrea, called the God of the Mound, consumes the children to stay dormant. A young Cursed Child named Yuzuki leads a group of children hiding in a cave. Rentaro refuses to let the sacrifices continue. He confronts the village priest, who justifies the practice as necessary for survival. Rentaro attacks the Gastrea alone. Enju transforms into her berserk form to assist but collapses from the strain. Rentaro uses his new Varanium arm to land a critical blow on the Gastrea. The Gastrea dies, and the priest shoots himself. Rentaro buries the remains of the sacrificed children. The episode ends with Rentaro carrying an unconscious Enju, vowing to create a world where Cursed Children do not have to die.
9The Barrier of the Crimson Sky
Rentaro Satomi and Enju Aihara arrive at the outer monolith barrier where a breach has occurred. A swarm of small Gastrea pours through the gap into the Tokyo Area. Rentaro fires his Varanium bullets, killing several Gastrea in rapid succession. Enju transforms her limbs into combat forms and tears through the advancing creatures. The Tokyo Area security forces deploy additional promoter-initiator pairs to reinforce the breach. Civilians in the outer districts abandon their homes and rush toward the inner shelters. A mob of citizens corners a young cursed child, blaming her for the Gastrea invasion. Rentaro pushes through the crowd and stands between the mob and the child. He fires a warning shot into the air, dispersing the attackers. The Seitenshi issues an evacuation order for all outer districts via emergency broadcast. Kisara Tendou watches the battle from the Tendou compound’s monitor room, calculating her next move. A massive tremor shakes the ground as a Stage V Gastrea emerges from the breach, its body towering over the city’s defensive walls.
10The Path of Taurus
Rentaro and Enju confront the Aldebaran,a massive Gastrea, in the center of Tokyo Area. Rentaro fires a Varanium bullet from his pistol, but the round fails to reach the creature’s core. Enju initiates a partial transformation, increasing her speed and striking the Gastrea to create an opening. Rentaro draws a Varanium blade and drives it into the Aldebaran’s exposed weak point, destroying the Gastrea. The battle exhausts both Rentaro and Enju, leaving them briefly incapacitated. Kisara Tendo uses the chaos to execute her prepared plan: she releases a Gastrea she secretly cultivated and directs it toward the Tendo family headquarters. She confronts her uncle, Genpū Tendo, and declares her intent to dismantle the family as revenge for her parents’ deaths. Rentaro arrives and attempts to halt Kisara, but she refuses to abandon her vengeance. Seitenshi survives the attack and resumes her leadership, acknowledging the instability caused by the Tendo family’s actions and Kisara’s emergence as a direct threat. Rentaro now faces a fractured situation: his partner Enju, his former comrade Kisara, and the political order he swore to protect pull him in opposing directions.
11タウルスの使者
The Aldebaran,a Stage V Gastrea, advances toward the Tokyo Area barrier. Rentaro Satomi and Enju Aihara join Civil Security forces in a direct engagement to slow its approach. Kisara Tendou coordinates supply lines and artillery support from the Tendou Civil Security headquarters. The military fires Varanium shells, but the rounds fail to penetrate the Gastrea’s core. Rentaro determines that a close-range injection of Varanium directly into the creature is the only remaining option. Kagetane Hiruko and Kohina arrive unannounced on the battlefield. Kagetane shoots off one of the Aldebaran’s legs with his Varanium bullets, destabilizing the creature but refusing to coordinate with the other defenders. Rentaro confronts Kagetane, who admits he wants the Aldebaran to reach the city to force a political escalation. Rentaro uses his mechanical limbs to drive a Varanium injector into the wound left by the severed leg. The injection temporarily freezes the Aldebaran, but Kagetane destroys the injector’s control unit, halting the shutdown. The Aldebaran resumes its advance, and the military orders an evacuation of the outer districts. Rentaro and Enju retreat with injuries as the Gastrea reaches the edge of the barrier. Kagetane withdraws, stating that the true trial has yet to begin.
12Crisis of Tokyo Area
The Stage V Gastrea designated as the Scorpion breaches the outer defense perimeter and advances toward Tokyo. The Tokyo Area government orders the deployment of the Seven Stars Cascade,a weapon that consumes five Cursed Children as sacrifices to generate a large-scale Varanium explosion. Rentaro Satomi intercepts the military convoy transporting the selected children, frees them, and sends them to safety with Enju Aihara. He then engages the Scorpion alone, using his mechanical arm’s enhanced capabilities to inflict damage while the Gastrea’s regenerative abilities counter his attacks. Enju returns to the battlefield, and together they combine their fighting styles to target the creature’s core. Rentaro’s arm transforms further, achieving a state he calls the Black Bullet, which allows him to penetrate the Gastrea’s outer shell. Kisara Tendo, from a distant position, fires a specialized Varanium bullet developed by the Tendo family, striking the core and causing the Scorpion to disintegrate. The destruction triggers a chain reaction that collapses several monoliths, weakening the barrier that protects Tokyo from Gastrea invasions. With the immediate threat eliminated, the city’s leadership confronts the loss of defensive infrastructure and the political fallout from using Cursed Children as weapons. Rentaro and Enju reaffirm their pact to continue fighting against both the Gastrea and the societal structures that sacrifice children.
13To the Edge of the World
Rentaro and Enju reach the Monolith of Sorrow, where Kagetane awaits with the cursed child Kohina. Kagetane reveals his goal: to destroy the monolith and allow the Gastrea to overrun Tokyo Area, forcing humanity to abandon its current civilization and rebuild from a purer state. Rentaro refuses to let the city fall, and a three-way battle erupts when Kagetane also targets Seitenshi, who arrives with the Anti-Gastrea troops. Tina Sprout intervenes, firing a long-range shot that wounds Kohina, temporarily disabling her. Kagetane, enraged, accelerates his plan and detonates explosives around the monolith. As the structure collapses, Rentaro rushes to protect Enju, and Seitenshi orders a forced retreat. Rentaro and Enju pursue Kagetane inside the crumbling monolith, where Rentaro confronts him directly. During the fight, Rentaro uses his mechanical arm to block Kagetane’s bullets, and Enju lands a decisive kick that sends Kagetane into the collapsing debris. The monolith explodes, but Rentaro and Enju escape with help from Kisara’s squad, who extract them moments before the blast. In the aftermath, the monolith is destroyed, but the Gastrea invasion is temporarily stalled. Seitenshi publicly declares that Rentaro and the Civil Security Corps will continue to defend the city, despite the loss. Rentaro, Enju, and Kisara return to their base, acknowledging that their fight is far from over. The episode ends with Rentaro receiving a new mission request, indicating that new threats are already emerging in the chaos left by Kagetane’s attack.
