Description
Kagetane Hiruko is a prominent antagonist and a Promoter, a specialist who fights monstrous creatures known as Gastrea, partnered with his own daughter, Kohina Hiruko, who serves as his Initiator. His appearance is distinctive and theatrical, typically consisting of a wine-colored tailcoat, a silk hat, white gloves, and a white mask that conceals most of his face, leaving only his unsettling yellow eyes and part of his jawline exposed. This mask bears a fixed, mischievous smirk, adding to his eerie and unpredictable demeanor.

His background is deeply tied to the world's conflict. Kagetane is a subject of the New Human Creation Project, specifically a former member of a mechanized special forces unit created to eliminate Gastrea. To become a mechanized soldier, most of his internal organs were replaced with a super-strong material called baranium, granting him his signature abilities but at a great physical cost. Prior to his reappearance, he was a licensed civil security officer who achieved a high IP Rank of 134, but his excessively violent and problematic behavior led to his license being forcibly suspended by the IISO, causing him to disappear for a long period.

In terms of personality, Kagetane is calm, calculating, and exceptionally confident, often maintaining his composure and even answering his phone during intense battles. He is also profoundly violent and displays a complete lack of remorse for taking human lives, often seeming to derive enjoyment from it. He holds no respect for authority, famously dismissing the protector of the Tokyo Area, the Seitenshi, as a useless ruler. His motivations stem from a deep-seated nihilism and a desire to upheave the existing social order. He despises the hypocrisy of a society that discriminates against the very cursed children who fight to protect it, yet he has no qualms about using them as tools for his own ends. He sought to create the perfect initiator by abducting women, impregnating them with his own genetically altered sperm, and injecting the fetuses with the Gastrea virus. He then forced the resulting children to fight to the death, with his daughter Kohina being the sole survivor, whom he refers to as an evil angel rather than the devil he intended to create.

Within the story, Kagetane serves as a primary antagonist and a dark mirror to the protagonist, Rentaro Satomi. He first appears by massacring a police unit and engages Rentaro in a fight that he easily dominates while on the phone. He later crashes a meeting of civil security officers to declare a twisted game to retrieve a powerful object known as the legacy of Nanahoshi. Despite their antagonism, Kagetane exhibits a strange obsession with Rentaro, offering him a large sum of money to join forces and later even providing assistance against a powerful Gastrea. He prophesies that Rentaro is destined to walk the same dark path he has, as they are both non-human mechanized soldiers living in a world that would reject them. His key relationships are primarily with his daughter, Kohina, who obeys him unquestioningly, and with Rentaro, whom he views as a fascinating rival and ideological foil.

Kagetane’s notable abilities are derived from his mechanized body. His primary power is the generation of a powerful repulsive force field, which he can shape and control at will. He uses this defensively to create an impenetrable spherical barrier called Imaginary Gimmick, which is strong enough to deflect anti-tank rifle rounds, and offensively to form a piercing spear called Endless Scream. In addition to his repulsion field, he is a highly skilled gunslinger, wielding two customized Beretta 92 pistols named Spanking Sodomy, a black model, and Psychedelic Gospel, a silver one. These weapons are fitted with bayonets for close-quarters combat and are engraved with philosophical phrases. Throughout his development, he begins as an enigmatic and seemingly invincible villain, but after a brutal fight with Rentaro, he suffers considerable damage and is forced to retreat, though he survives and continues to operate from the shadows, hinting at his connection to a larger, secretive organization.
