Description
George Manley is an American voice actor and ADR script writer known for his extensive work in English-language dubs of anime, primarily for studios such as ADV Films and Funimation Entertainment. Born George Edmond Manley on September 17, 1965, in Sacramento, California, his path to voice acting was shaped by a diverse educational background, including studies in theatre arts at San Jose State University and journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno. He also holds an associate degree in Computer Information Systems and trained professionally at San Francisco's Voice One Studio. His entry into the industry was encouraged by established voice actors Amanda Winn-Lee, Tiffany Grant, and Matt Greenfield, whom he met at the 2002 FanimeCon.

Manley's career encompasses a wide array of character roles across numerous anime series. His filmography includes the role of Issac in Log Horizon and Log Horizon 2, the octopus-hatted swordsman Hatchan and the role of Montblanc Cricket in the Funimation dub of One Piece, and Kai Shimada across the various Hakuoki series and films, including Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom, Hakuoki: Record of the Jade Blood, and Hakuoki: Wild Dance of Kyoto. He voiced Schnitzer in both the Bodacious Space Pirates television series and its film, Abyss of Hyperspace, and provided the voice for Darius in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Other notable credits include Terra of the Left in A Certain Magical Index II, the role of Gimlet in the short film A Farewell to Weapons from the Short Peace anthology, Captain Hornor in Project Blue Earth SOS, Impact in Legend of the Mystical Ninja, VO in Five Numbers!, and Chief Manager in the ADV Films dub of Dirty Pair: Project Eden. His early work also featured roles in children's animation, such as providing voices for multiple characters in Hello Kitty's Animation Theater, including the Genie in Aladdin, the Giant in Jack and the Beanstalk, and the Red Ogre in Legend of Momotaro.

In addition to his on-screen voice work, Manley has made significant contributions behind the scenes as an ADR script writer. He served as the series writer for the English adaptations of several major series, including Super Dimension Fortress Macross, 009-1, Coyote Ragtime Show, Pumpkin Scissors, and Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid. He also wrote script adaptations for episodes of Gantz and Log Horizon 2.

Manley faced significant personal challenges in his later career. Due to heart and arthritis conditions that made commuting difficult, he had to transition to home-based work. After a period of homelessness beginning in July 2018, a GoFundMe campaign was established by his supporters to assist him financially. He has also contributed his time and voice as an on-air personality for Houston's Turning Sight into Sound Radio (formerly Taping for the Blind Radio), where he reads publications like the Houston Chronicle and Sports Illustrated for the vision-impaired community.
