Description
Masked Takenouchi is a character who first appears as one of several masked men attempting to hijack a plane carrying Cromartie High School students on a field trip to Kyushu. He suffers from agoraphobia, which makes him uneasy in the presence of strangers, and this condition contributes to his initial involvement in the hijacking scheme. During the chaotic incident, the real Yutaka Takenouchi is mistakenly identified as a hijacker and taken to America, while this hijacker slips away and later assumes Yutaka Takenouchi’s identity. To conceal his true identity, he wears a wrestler-style mask at all times. Despite bearing no physical resemblance to the original Takenouchi, none of the Cromartie students or even Takenouchi’s own family suspect the substitution. He integrates into daily life at Cromartie High, attending classes and interacting with classmates as if he were the real Takenouchi. Over time, his mask becomes treated as a normal fashion accessory rather than a disguise. His motivations stem from a desire to avoid capture and to live a hidden life, and his agoraphobia shapes his cautious, low-key behavior. He maintains the same friendships and social role that Yutaka Takenouchi originally held, particularly with the other first-year students such as Takashi Kamiyama and Shinjiro Hayashida, though those relationships are built on the fiction of his assumed identity. The character remains largely static throughout the story, with no significant development beyond the gradual normalization of his masked presence. His notable attribute is his ability to maintain this elaborate deception without ever being discovered, a feat that highlights the absurd and surreal tone of the series.
