Description
Nagamasa Gado is a promoter and a high-ranking commander within the civil security forces of the Tokyo Area, serving as the leader of the Civil Security Division during the Third Kanto War. He holds the title of Adjutant Supreme Commander and wears Sengoku-era Japanese armor, which, along with his bald head and blue-green eyes, gives him a distinctive, authoritative appearance. He is 54 years old and carries a sword made from Varanium, a metal effective against Gastrea, and is considered an excellent swordsman and an experienced leader. He is partnered with the initiator Asaka Mibu, and the pair holds an IP rank of 275 at the start of the war.
Gado is a stern and disciplined individual who places great importance on rules, hierarchy, and the chain of command. He is known among the civil security officers for his wisdom and bravery, and he is respected as a capable strategist. His practical, no-nonsense approach to leadership sometimes brings him into conflict with less conventional promoters like Rentaro Satomi. When Rentaro’s team disobeyed orders, Gado disbanded their support group and gave Rentaro the choice of facing capital punishment or undertaking a near-suicidal solo mission to eliminate the Gastrea known as Pleiades. This decision reflected Gado’s belief in strict accountability and his willingness to use harsh measures to maintain order.
Despite his stern exterior, he shows a protective side, particularly toward the cursed children under his command, and he has a son named Hidehiko Gado whom he encouraged to become a promoter. During the Third Kanto War, he lost a leg in the first attack by the Gastrea Aldebaran but managed to inflict significant damage on the enemy before retreating, demonstrating his resilience and combat ability even when grievously wounded. His motivations are rooted in duty and the protection of the Tokyo Area, and he acts as a key figure of military authority in the story, overseeing the civil security forces and enforcing the will of the higher command. His role is primarily that of a commanding officer and a figure of institutional authority, and his development in the narrative centers on his interactions with the protagonist Rentaro Satomi, where his rigid principles are tested against Rentaro's more impulsive but effective methods.
