Description
In the anime film One Piece: The Desert Princess and the Pirates: Adventure in Alabasta, which retells the conflict in the desert kingdom, Sir Crocodile stands as the primary antagonist. He is the formidable and cunning mastermind behind the secret crime syndicate Baroque Works, operating under the code name Mr. 0. Publicly, he is known as a hero and a powerful ally of the World Government, holding the prestigious title of one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. Beneath this faҫade, however, he is a ruthless pirate with a grand and devastating plan.

Crocodile is a tall, broad-shouldered man with a commanding presence, his slicked-back black hair and a long, stitched scar running across his face giving him a distinctly menacing look. He is rarely seen without a thick cigar in his mouth and a golden, hook-shaped prosthetic on his left hand, which hides a deadly, poison-coated dagger. His personality is defined by immense self-confidence and a cynical, condescending worldview. He speaks with a slow, measured tone and laughs with a distinctive "Kuhahahaha," rarely losing his composure because he genuinely believes in his own superiority. He views most people as fools and his own subordinates as nothing more than expendable pawns to be sacrificed for his goals. A seasoned and brilliant strategist, his seemingly calm demeanor hides a cruel and impatient nature; he is quick to punish failure or insults with death, often in a slow and torturous manner. Despite this, his arrogance is a critical flaw, leading him to underestimate his opponents' willpower, which ultimately contributes to his downfall.

Crocodile's primary motivation is the acquisition of military power. Disillusioned with the romanticized ideal of becoming Pirate King, he now seeks to obtain the ancient weapon Pluton, a warship said to be capable of mass destruction. To this end, he orchestrates a coup d'état in the Kingdom of Alabasta. By using a rain-making substance known as Dance Powder to create a devastating drought, he frames the beloved King Cobra for the country's suffering, inciting a brutal civil war between the royal army and a rebel faction. As the desperate populace turns against their king, Crocodile positions himself as the nation's savior by defeating the pirates he secretly employs, gaining the trust of the people while he covertly searches for the device that will lead him to Pluton.

Within the story of the film, Crocodile serves as the central obstacle for the Straw Hat Pirates and Princess Vivi. His role is to manipulate the conflict from the shadows in Alubarna, the capital, while his Officer Agents engage the crew in battle throughout the city. Key relationships define his interactions. He views his partner, Nico Robin (Miss All Sunday), not as an ally but as a vital tool for her ability to read the ancient Poneglyphs which hold the key to Pluton, and he shows no hesitation in attempting to kill her when she outlives her usefulness. His relationship with Princess Vivi is that of a tormentor; he is directly responsible for the destruction of her homeland and takes sadistic pleasure in watching her desperate and futile attempts to stop the war. His primary physical conflict is with Monkey D. Luffy. He initially dismisses Luffy as a rookie, easily defeating him twice through the overwhelming power of his Logia-type Devil Fruit. However, Crocodile's overconfidence becomes his undoing, as Luffy relentlessly learns from each defeat, ultimately discovering and exploiting his weakness to save Alabasta.

Throughout the film, Crocodile exhibits little to no positive development as a character, remaining the calculating and merciless villain. However, his later appearances in the broader series, such as during the Impel Down prison break and the Summit War of Marineford, show a shift in his demeanor; he becomes more willing to act on whim and even assist former enemies, though he frames his actions as being driven by a desire to spite the Marines rather than through altruism.

Crocodile's notable abilities are formidable, making him a significant threat. He is the user of the Suna Suna no Mi, a Logia-class Devil Fruit that allows him to create, control, and transform his body into sand. This power grants him near-intangibility, as physical attacks pass through him harmlessly unless he is touched by a liquid, his primary weakness. He can unleash massive sandstorms that devastate entire regions, form his sand into deadly blades like the Ground Death or Desert Spada, and absorb every drop of moisture from any living being or object he touches with his right hand, instantly mummifying his victims. Combined with his physical strength, tactical genius, and the hidden weapon in his gold-alloy hook, Crocodile is a master of both long-range devastation and up-close combat, proving to be one of the most dangerous adversaries the Straw Hat crew ever faces at that point in their journey.
