Description
Dai Komine is a supporting character from the anime Majestic Prince: Wings to the Future. He is an adult male with black eyes and brown hair cut to approximately ear length. Komine holds the rank of Colonel and serves as the Deputy Chief of Staff within the Integrated Staff Headquarters of the Global Defense Force, or GDF. In this capacity, he is a senior officer frequently involved in high-level strategic planning and field command.

Komine is depicted as an arrogant, overbearing, and narrow-minded military official whose primary personal motivation appears to be the pursuit of personal glory and recognition. He is deeply concerned with securing credit for victories and is fixated on making a name for himself through successful operations. This ambition often manifests as obstinate and self-important tactical decision-making, which has been noted to cause significant strain for those under his command. His role in the story is typically that of an antagonistic authority figure whose flawed directives place the protagonist team, Team Rabbits, in life-threatening danger due to his poor leadership.

His personality is characterized by an inability to admit his own mistakes; instead, he frequently shifts blame onto his subordinates and claims the ideas of others as his own. Consequently, he is regarded as a poor and untrustworthy commander, viewed by some as a total ass in a position of power. This reputation extends to his peers, with fellow officer Kei Kagamiya giving him the disdainful nickname crushed cream puff.

Despite these negative traits, there is an irony to Komine's character. From a purely tactical standpoint, many of his battle strategies are considered logically sound and appropriate for a conventional human defense force. He demonstrates skill in planning and has capabilities as a competent behind-the-scenes staff officer. His primary failings stem from his lack of real combat experience, his attention-seeking behavior, and the fact that the alien enemy, the Urgar, are an unconventional species that defy standard military expectations. This combination leads directly to his major failures in the field, most notably the disastrous Operation Thunderbolt during the Battle of Keres.

Following the failures at Keres, Komine is effectively removed from front-line command. He is taken off active duty and seen during a conference regarding the defense of the Vestal base, after which he temporarily disappears from the narrative. However, he reappears later in the theatrical film version of the story, where he demonstrates surprising and unexpected usefulness, suggesting a degree of development or redemption for the character. Regarding key relationships, he is a direct superior to pilot Amane Hatsuki, and his interactions with Team Rabbits define much of his on-screen role as a conflicted and obstructive authority figure.
