Description
The Principal is the unnamed head of Sainan High School, the school attended by most of the main cast of To Love-Ru. He is consistently identified only by his title, as his personal name is never given. He appears as a very short, stout, balding older man with facial hair, and he is almost always dressed in loud, flashy suits paired with round sunglasses. His sunglasses are a running joke in the series: they have no temples yet never fall off, and because he never removes them, his true face is never shown to the audience.

His personality is defined by scandalous and openly lecherous behavior. He frequently rushes at female students wearing nothing but his underwear, and this conduct becomes even more exaggerated and out of control in the sequel series To Love-Ru Darkness. Despite his shameless antics, he is not entirely without principle. He occasionally displays a sense of right and wrong, and he is capable of cooperating with authority figures, such as working alongside the strict student council member Yui Kotegawa to point out another suspected pervert. In this sense, he can briefly align with the forces of discipline that his own behavior constantly undermines.

His main motivation is comedic: he indulges in perverse pursuits involving the female student body, and his behavior serves as a recurring gag that disrupts everyday school life. However, he still carries out his duties as the school's principal, presiding over events and interacting with students and staff. The story treats him not as a genuine villain but as an absurd, over-the-top figure who can sometimes be reasoned with or persuaded.

His relationships with the main characters reinforce his comic role. He takes a notable interest in Riko, the female alter ego of the protagonist Rito Yuuki, and he negotiates with the alien princess Run to allow her into a particular class. His harassment of female students frequently brings humiliating or violent consequences. The assassin Golden Darkness once dealt with him by sending him to Antarctica through a wormhole; he was later found frozen solid and reappeared covered in bandages from frostbite. On another occasion, Queen Sefie of Deviluke scolded him into briefly behaving like a pure-hearted gentleman, showing that strong authority can, at least temporarily, curb his instincts.

In terms of development, the Principal does not undergo a dramatic character arc. Instead, his role expands as the series becomes more exaggerated. In the original series he is a recurring gag character, and in To Love-Ru Darkness his perversion is pushed further and literally spirals out of control, cementing him as one of the most bizarre recurring figures in the cast. His behavior becomes so distinctive that other characters deliberately imitate it: Momo notes that mimicking the Principal's shamelessness can shatter a person's walls of reason, and the tactic is actually used in an attempt to restore Golden Darkness's normal personality.

Despite his unimpressive frame, he possesses surprising physical prowess. He has shown enough agility and reflexes to keep evading the attacks of Golden Darkness, who openly praises his ability to dodge. His durability is also remarkable, as demonstrated by surviving being frozen in Antarctica. These traits add a layer of absurd competence to an otherwise purely comedic character, making him more than just a helpless old man.
