Byron, a member of the Seekers of Truth, serves as mentor to Cassandra Pentaghast, treating her with paternal care yet maintaining harsh training methods. His involvement begins during an attack on apostate Frenic’s blood magic ritual, where he aids in rescuing young elven mage Avexis.

After the mission, Byron grows suspicious of a conspiracy within the Chantry and Seekers. He secretly extracts Avexis from her Seeker stronghold cell to transport her to safety. When Cassandra discovers his actions, he initially refuses explanation but later permits her to accompany him and Avexis into nearby woods. There, he reveals his corruption concerns and plan to entrust Avexis to a reliable contact.

During their journey, Frenic and his blood mages ambush the trio. Byron dies shielding Cassandra and Avexis from the attackers. His final words to Cassandra—"Hate can only breed more hate"—reflect his worldview and serve as a caution for his protégé.
