Description
Mickey Simon, a Vietnam War veteran and ex-United States Navy pilot, flew with the VF-33 Starfighters and VF-96 Fighting Falcons aboard the USS Enterprise. Plagued by unresolved trauma and a compulsive thirst for combat, he abandoned civilian life to join the mercenary unit at Area 88 in Aslan. His military past was shadowed by the grim "Fireball" incident—a desperate solo mission to eradicate a disease-ridden village through fire and force, an act that branded him with guilt and his fiery callsign.

Renowned as Area 88’s self-declared second-best pilot, Mickey excelled in aerial dogfights, favoring the F-14 Tomcat for its combat-tested legacy. His jets bore a distinctive rabbit-head emblem, echoing his bold persona. Though less adept at ground strikes, he forged an unshakable bond with Shin Kazama, the squadron’s stoic protagonist, balancing Shin’s reticence with brash camaraderie. Their alliance weathered clashes, including a heated physical confrontation, yet thrived on battlefield loyalty.

Mickey briefly commanded the unit in Saki Vashtar’s stead, advocating for fellow pilots during dire straits. His history intertwined with McBurn, a Project 4 ally turned rival, their friction fueled by post-service envy. Later, he rescued rebel flier Kitori Palvanaff (alias Sera), kindling a romance anchored in vows of a peaceful future—a dream shattered when their final sortie against McBurn ended catastrophically. Mickey’s Tomcat detonated mid-duel, with Kitori perishing in a desperate rescue attempt.

Beneath his role as a boisterous event organizer lay unresolved torment over the Vietnam massacre, confessed to Shin in moments of raw vulnerability. His arc closed tragically, emblematic of war’s relentless grip on those it ensnares, leaving friendships, rivalries, and redemption unfulfilled.
