Ayana Taketatsu
Description
Ayana Taketatsu is a Japanese voice actress and singer born on June 23, 1989, in Saitama Prefecture. As a child, she was self-conscious about her voice, which friends described as sounding like an anime character. However, watching series such as Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailor Moon led her to appreciate the voice acting profession and inspired her to utilize her distinctive vocal quality. She attended the Nihon Narration Engi Kenkyujo training school and, at the age of 15, became the youngest voice actor to join the agency I'm Enterprise at that time. She made her debut in 2007, voicing a character in the game Soul Cradle.
Taketatsu's first major anime role came in 2008 as Ako Suminoe in the OVA Kiss×sis, a part she found challenging due to its explicit content but which gave her confidence in her abilities. Her career advanced significantly in 2009 with her role as Azusa Nakano in the immensely popular series K-On!. This role was pivotal, as she performed as part of the fictional band Hōkago Tea Time with her co-stars. Their musical work together led to them winning the Singing Award at the 4th Seiyu Awards in 2010.
Following the success of K-On!, Taketatsu became known for her ability to portray strong-willed and often "tsundere" characters, a prime example being her starring role as Kirino Kōsaka in Oreimo in 2010. That same year, she also voiced Ayumi Takahara in The World God Only Knows and continued to build her profile with roles like Eclair Martinozzi in Dog Days and Miharu Shimizu in Baka and Test. In 2012, she was cast as Suguha Kirigaya, the younger sister of the protagonist in the blockbuster series Sword Art Online, a role she would reprise across multiple sequels. She also began voicing Koneko Tōjō in High School DxD the same year.
Her career continued to flourish with a wide array of leading roles. She was cast as Kotori Itsuka in the long-running Date A Live franchise starting in 2013, and as Hotaru Shidare in Dagashi Kashi in 2016. In 2018, she took on roles such as Yuzu Aihara in the romance anime Citrus and Koizumi in Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles. A notable recurring role from this period was as Kei Karuizawa in Classroom of the Elite, beginning in 2017. She also took on more antagonistic or complex characters, such as Erimi Mushibami in Kakegurui XX and Alina Gray in Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story. In 2019, she was cast as Nino Nakano in The Quintessential Quintuplets, a role that connected her to another major franchise and musical unit with her co-stars.
Taketatsu's work in the 2020s has demonstrated her continued range and prominence in the industry. She has voiced characters in a variety of genres, from comedic roles like Mimi Alpacas in Peter Grill and the Philosopher's Time and Rika Hoshizaki in Girlfriend, Girlfriend, to more serious parts like Nagisa Natsunagi in The Detective Is Already Dead and Sophia Keren in So I'm a Spider, So What?. She also joined the cast of the long-running Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War as Bambietta Basterbine in 2022. Many of the roles provided by the user, such as Amelia Irving in Love Flops, Reiu Minamiya in Ancient Girl's Frame, Wisteria in The Tale of Outcasts, and Karen Kamiya in World's End Harem, are all reflected in her filmography from this period.
In addition to her voice acting, Taketatsu has had a successful career as a singer. She made her solo debut with the single "Sinfonia! Sinfonia!!!" in 2012 under the Pony Canyon label. In 2013, she formed the singing unit Petit Milady with fellow voice actress Aoi Yūki, and they performed together until 2019. Her musical contributions often extend to her anime roles, where she performs theme songs and character songs for series such as The Quintessential Quintuplets, The Tale of Outcasts, and Wanna Be the Strongest in the World.
Throughout her career, Taketatsu has been affiliated with several talent agencies, moving from I'm Enterprise to Assemble Heart in 2012, then to LINK-PLAN in 2017. On her 30th birthday in 2019, she announced her marriage to fellow voice actor Yuki Kaji, and the couple had their first child in 2022.
