TV-Series
Description
Azusa Nakano is a student at Sakuragaoka High School who joins the school's Light Music Club during her first year, becoming the rhythm guitarist for the band later known as Ho-kago Tea Time. Born on November 11, she is the youngest member of the original group, standing 150 centimeters tall. She has long black hair that she typically wears in pigtails and eyes that are a brownish-orange tint in the anime.

Azusa comes from a musical background, as her parents play in a jazz band, and she began playing the guitar herself in the fourth grade. Despite her self-deprecating claim of being a novice, she is an extremely talented and technically proficient musician, playing a Fender Japan '69 Reissue Mustang in Candy Apple Red, which she names Muttan. Her skill on the guitar is superior to that of her senior, Yui Hirasawa.

In terms of personality, Azusa is diligent, serious, and structured, approaching the Light Music Club with the expectation of intensive practice and musical ambition. She is therefore frequently disappointed and exasperated by the club's actual routine of eating snacks, drinking tea, and lazing about, which leads her to nag the other members and try to impose discipline. She is, however, not immune to the club's charms and has a hidden weakness for sweets, particularly cake, and can be calmed down easily, sometimes just from being petted on the head. This internal conflict causes her to sometimes be shocked at how quickly she has adapted to the club's laid-back atmosphere, leading her to renew her efforts to make everyone practice.

Azusa's role in the story is initially that of a new perspective, providing a contrast to the established members and highlighting their unusual dynamic. She is a grounding presence who, alongside Mio Akiyama, represents the group's sensible core. Over time, she becomes an integral part of the band, and her relationships with each senior member deepen. She develops a close and often physically affectionate bond with Yui, who constantly hugs her and gives her the nickname Azu-nyan after Azusa is made to wear cat ears and meow. Although Azusa often reacts with embarrassment or frustration to Yui's behavior, she genuinely treasures her and is willing to help her, such as by creating a strict study plan for her exams. She looks up to Mio the most, admiring her maturity and musicianship, and the two share many similarities in their shy and earnest personalities. She finds Tsumugi Kotobuki beautiful and once envies her hair and eyes, and she also spends time teaching her how to play the guitar. With the club's president, Ritsu Tainaka, Azusa has a friendly but teasing relationship, often becoming the target of Ritsu's playful chokeholds.

Throughout the series, Azusa shows notable development. She gradually becomes accustomed to the Light Music Club's unconventional ways and learns to appreciate the friendship and fun alongside the music. Her fear of being left behind is a significant emotional driver, as she is the only member of the original lineup who is a year younger. This culminates in a powerful scene where she tearfully begs her graduating seniors not to leave her. After their graduation, she matures further, taking on the responsibility of becoming the new president of the Light Music Club. Alongside her friends Ui Hirasawa and Jun Suzuki, she works to recruit new members, forming a new band called Wakaba Girls, where she steps into the role of lead guitarist and, eventually, vocalist.

Beyond her musical talent, Azusa is academically smart and organized, and she loves planning things, as demonstrated when she arranges the band's graduation trip to London. She also possesses a surprising amount of physical strength for her small size, once dragging a reluctant Yui behind her with one hand. A running gag is her extreme susceptibility to sunburn, as she tans very easily and dramatically even when wearing sunscreen, often to her great embarrassment. While she appears calm-natured, she has an eruptive side and snaps easily when teased, and she can be stubborn in trying not to show weakness. Despite her tough exterior, she cannot stand being lonely and is a genuinely kind and thoughtful person who deeply treasures and supports her friends.
