Description
Hikari is a sixteen-year-old female character who serves as one of the main protagonists. She is a unique hybrid, possessing both human and fairy lineage, which plays a significant role in her identity and journey. Physically, she is recognized by her golden blonde hair, which falls to her waist, and her blue eyes. Her birthday is on February 14th.

In terms of personality, Hikari is best known for her bright, cheerful, and innocent nature, almost always maintaining a smile. She possesses a strong ability to read the atmosphere of any situation and consciously acts in a sunny, uplifting manner, often to bring comfort to those around her. However, this constant cheerfulness is a deliberate choice; it functions both as a genuine expression of kindness and as a personal shield to avoid burdening others with her own worries. Beneath her radiant exterior lies a quiet uncertainty and questions about her own origins, which lends a subtle depth to her character.

Hikari’s primary motivation is to discover the truth about her birth and the identity of her real parents. Having been raised by foster parents from a very young age, she has no direct memories of her biological family. As she grew older, her mixed heritage became harder to ignore, fueling a curiosity that eventually turned into the determination to leave home. Her journey to reach the Divine Gate is, at its core, a personal quest to uncover her past and understand what it means to be both human and fairy.

In her role within the story, Hikari is a traveler seeking answers. In the anime adaptation, she is a member of the Academy and often teams up with two other characters named Yuki and Ginji. Her path is illuminated by the light that spills from the Divine Gate, which acts as a guide for her.

Hikari wields a sword-shaped Driver, a transformation and combat device named Lumière, which means light in French. This weapon resonates with her inner brightness and can be upgraded, with known forms including Lumière: Deux and Lumière: Trois. Her hybrid nature suggests potential fairy-like abilities, such as heightened senses or an affinity for light, which may amplify her power when she focuses her resolve to protect her friends. Outside of combat, she has a notable talent for making sweets and desserts, often using oranges as a favorite ingredient, while she strongly dislikes spicy food like habanero peppers.

Throughout her journey, Hikari shows significant development as she confronts the truth of her origins. It is revealed that she is the daughter of Oberon, the King of Heaven, and the woman he loved, Igraine. She was artificially created using Oberon's genes and was entrusted to human foster parents by Titania, Oberon’s wife. Facing this reality is difficult, and she initially hides behind a practiced smile, wielding her Driver not for herself, but to keep others from frowning. Her ultimate goal is to learn the meaning of a genuine smile, not one put on for the sake of others. She strives to reach the eternal realm of Shangri-La, floating above Heaven, in search of the true meaning of happiness and to finally smile for herself. Her story is one of moving beyond a constructed facade to find genuine self-acceptance.
