Movie
Description
Azusa Ueda is Hayato Hayasugi's classmate and childhood friend since kindergarten. She lives with her parents in the Ueda Apartment in Ōmiya, Saitama Prefecture. Her father works at the Saitama Railway Museum alongside Hayato's father, Hokuto Hayasugi.
Azusa actively pursues online fame as an elementary school YouTuber, creating channel content. This ambition sometimes manifests in bratty, arrogant, or selfish behavior, including demanding tendencies and snooping that irritate Hayato and his teammates. She frequently expresses annoyance with Hayato's railway obsessions and initially feels suspicious about his new friendships and activities, though she respects his willingness to understand others' interests.
Her involvement with the Shinkansen Ultra Evolution Institute begins when she accidentally records footage of Shinkalion battles during a monster attack in episode 14. This leads to her formal recruitment to document and analyze combat data. While remaining the only human member of Team Ōmiya not piloting a Shinkalion, she becomes increasingly integrated into their operations. Her attempts to gain online attention occasionally strain relationships, but she works to maintain her friendships and assists the team.
A key development occurs in episode 74 when she compiles and uploads a video montage of Shinkalion battles to the internet. This broadcasts the institute's struggle publicly, rallying nationwide moral support for the pilots during the final confrontation against the Kitoralsus threat, directly contributing to the conflict's resolution.
Following the main series, her living situation evolves: Seiryu moves into the Ueda Apartment by episode 52. Suzaku later joins the household in episode 65 but moves out before the film *Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion: The Marvelous Fast ALFA-X That Comes From the Future*.
In *Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z*, Azusa does not appear physically. However, Hayato references her in episode 33 as his primary motivation for returning to Japan, with an image of her current appearance shown during his monologue. Her surname, Ueda, likely derives from Ueda Station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen Line.
