Description
Wisteria Langley is an orphan navigating the late 19th century British Empire. Born with clairvoyance, she sees demons invisible to others, an ability leading to mistreatment in the orphanage she shared with her older brother, Snow Langley. Their bond fractures when Snow is taken for servitude; her desperate search reveals no trace of him, resulting in permanent separation.

Rescued from the orphanage only to face new hardship, a priest offers shelter but subjects her to physical abuse and forces her to beg on church grounds. This priest ultimately arranges her sale to a figure notorious for torturing children to death. At her most vulnerable, she encounters Marbas, a powerful, immortal lion-like demon who shares her profound loneliness, stemming from humanity's fading ability to perceive his kind. To escape her grim fate, Wisteria forms a contract with Marbas, trading her eyesight for freedom and his protection. This pact marks the beginning of their shared journey.

Her appearance features long silver hair in a knee-length jellyfish haircut, blue eyes, a white dress with a pale pink waist bow, black pants, a grey cloak, and white knee-high boots. The contract costs her physical sight but grants Marbas's unwavering guardianship and companionship. Their relationship is defined by mutual guardianship and a deep, strictly platonic bond. Marbas becomes her protector while she alleviates his centuries of apathy and boredom.

Her journey unfolds in a world of humans and humanoid beasts, constantly threatened by organizations like the demon-slaying Knights of the Sword Cross – who employ her brother, Snow. She forges friendships, notably with Diana Blackbell, a noblewoman contracted to the wolf demon Naberius. Wisteria encounters various demons, including Sitri, who traps her in a constructed memory world during a critical confrontation, challenging her grip on reality and her connection to Marbas.

Evolving from enduring trauma, Wisteria exercises agency through her choices and relationships. The pact with Marbas redefines her existence, replacing isolation with purpose through their unique bond and shared quest for peace in a hostile world. Her background as an outcast shapes her interactions, yet her inherent good nature persists. Her story intertwines with mythological elements, including the Thirteen Calamities of the Wasteland, the powerful demon group to which Marbas belongs.
