Description
Kaede Kayano, initially operating under this alias, concealed her true identity as Akari Yukimura, younger sister of Aguri Yukimura. Before enrolling at Kunugigaoka Junior High, she achieved fame as child actress Haruna Mase. Following her manager's advice to take a break, she stepped away from acting and faded from public view, returning to a regular student life. She shared a deeply affectionate bond with her sister and personally advised Aguri to break off her engagement with Kotarō Yanagisawa after recognizing his sinister intentions. The sisters planned to reunite the day after an explosion at Aguri's workplace; Akari witnessed the incident, navigated the rubble, and found Aguri fatally wounded near a tentacled creature destined to become Korosensei. Mistaking the creature for her sister's killer, Akari discovered tentacle cell liquid and research notes at the scene. She took these materials home, researched the tentacles, and devised a revenge plan. Adopting the alias "Kaede Kayano" from a one-shot character she once portrayed, she deliberately vandalized Chairman Asano's property to secure placement in Class 3-E, injected herself with tentacle cells, and dyed her naturally black hair green.

Physically petite during her Class 3-E tenure, Kayano stood at 146 cm (4'9"), possessing hazel eyes and light-green hair styled in distinctive cat ear-shaped pigtails. A recurring physical trait was her lack of noticeable breast development, earning her the codename "Forever Flat." After tentacle removal, her hair regrew to its original length. Seven years post-graduation, she reached 157 cm (5'2") with slight chest growth and reverted to her natural black hair, worn in a wavy, waist-length style. Under the influence of tentacle-induced bloodlust, her eyes turned red.

Her initial cheerful, supportive, and passive personality was largely a fabricated persona to conceal her assassination motives and blend into Class 3-E. Authentic traits included exceptional tenacity—enduring tentacle-induced pain for over a year without treatment—a complex regarding breast size, and adaptability. She frequently provided logistical support during assassination attempts and bonded with classmates over shared interests like sweets, particularly pudding. Genuine friendships developed with Manami Okuda and Yukiko Kanzaki, and she actively included isolated peers. Camaraderie with Sumire Hara and Yuzuki Fuwa often involved discussions about culinary topics or manga. Her fixation on large-breasted women, like Irina Jelavić, stemmed from insecurity about her own physique.

Upon transferring to Class 3-E, she identified Nagisa Shiota as an ideal "cover" due to his latent bloodlust. She styled his hair into signature pigtails to increase his conspicuousness, aiding her own inconspicuousness. While initially using their friendship for camouflage, she gradually developed genuine care for him. During winter break, she revealed her tentacles and attacked Korosensei, accusing him of Aguri's murder. Losing control to the tentacles' bloodlust during the confrontation, she was subdued when Nagisa kissed her, negating her rage. Korosensei then extracted her tentacles. Afterwards, her fabricated persona integrated into her authentic self. She expressed romantic feelings for Nagisa, implied by her flustered reaction to their kiss and later admissions. She joined his team advocating to save Korosensei instead of killing him, citing her sister's likely wish to protect the creature.

Her abilities include high intelligence, demonstrated by passing Kunugigaoka's transfer exam on her first attempt and mastering tentacle control without cognitive impairment. Her acting skills allowed her to maintain a false identity undetected for months. Though tentacles initially dulled her physical capabilities, their removal revealed agility honed during her acting career, enabling her to match athletic peers like Hinata Okano. Shiro noted her as Class 3-E's most qualified assassin due to stealth, observational prowess, and tactical planning—evidenced by her pudding-based assassination attempt, later revealed as a diversion to avoid suspicion. Post-graduation, she resumed acting and maintained ties with classmates, particularly Nagisa, with implied romantic development between them.
