Ai Kakuma
Description
Ai Kakuma is a Japanese voice actress affiliated with the agency Mausu Promotion. She was born on September 9, 1988, in Fukuoka Prefecture. Her journey to becoming a voice actor began later than most. Inspired by the character Kagome Higurashi from the anime Inuyasha, she initially pursued other work, spending four years as an office worker after high school. She eventually decided to follow her dream, enrolling in the Mausu Promotion training center, from which she graduated as part of the 26th class. She officially debuted in 2011. Her early career was marked by a significant role as Ion in the game Ciel Nosurge in 2012, which helped launch her professional work.
Kakuma has built an extensive and diverse filmography across anime, video games, and original video animations. She has voiced a wide range of characters, from stoic heroines to comedic roles. In anime, some of her notable performances include Franka in Arknights: Prelude to Dawn, Ms. Aki in the surreal series Sonny Boy, and Rurutie in Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth. She is also known for her roles as the cat-girl Fran in Reincarnated as a Sword, Sargatanas in As Miss Beelzebub Likes, and Machi Kuraki in Fruits Basket the Final. Her repertoire includes supporting roles in major hits like Makomo in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and a recurring role as Eris Boreas Greyrat in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. She has also appeared in series such as Azur Lane (as both Takao and Unicorn), BOFURI, Arifureta, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
Beyond anime, Kakuma has an equally impressive presence in the video game industry. She voices Yuri Sakazaki in The King of Fighters series from XIV onward and plays Edelgard von Hresvelg, a central character in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. She also lends her voice to Takao and Unicorn in Azur Lane, Rosaria in Genshin Impact, and characters in major titles like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Cerys an Craite) and Goddess of Victory: Nikke. Her work spans franchises including Fate/Grand Order, Granblue Fantasy, and Arknights, where she voices Franka and Frostleaf.
Kakuma's career also includes a prominent role in the long-running Pretty Cure franchise. She voiced the fairy Rabirin in Healin' Good Precure and later took on the lead role of Mashiro Nijigaoka / Cure Prism in Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure. Her versatility is often noted by fans and critics, who observe her ability to perform a wide spectrum of voices, from the high-pitched tones of characters like Eris and Unicorn to the deeper, more mature registers of characters like Rosaria or Isuzu Sento from her first major lead role in Amagi Brilliant Park. This range, along with her ability to mimic other actors' styles, such as in her role as Misaka Worst in A Certain Magical Index III, has been a hallmark of her performances.
