Description
Fran is a young female Beastkin belonging to the Black Cat tribe, also known as the Black Miao. She is approximately twelve years old at the beginning of her journey, eventually turning thirteen. She has a petite and adorable appearance with short black or dark emerald hair, dark eyes, black cat ears, and a black cat tail. A distinctive feature is the golden bangle decorated with a single red pearl worn on her left ear.

Fran's past is marked by profound hardship. Her parents were killed in an attack by the rival Blue Cat tribe while they were all traveling together in search of a way to achieve evolution, a long-held dream for their people. After losing her parents, Fran was captured by human slave traders and endured approximately four years of enslavement, suffering constant harsh treatment and abuse. Her freedom was finally secured when she met a sentient magical sword during a monster attack on the slave trader's caravan. By wielding this sword to slay the beast and a surviving slaver, her slave contract was invalidated, and she named her new partner Master, or Teacher.

In terms of personality, Fran is normally stoic and expressionless, often engaging in short, terse conversations and showing little interest in social niceties or formal etiquette. She is largely unmotivated by tasks that do not involve fighting or eating. Despite this reticent exterior, she possesses a strong and caring heart, forming deep attachments to her own tribe and to those she considers friends. She is also notably humble, rarely flaunting her growing fame and power. However, she has a fierce and merciless side when provoked. Insults directed at her teacher, his cooking, or mockery of her for being a Black Cat will instantly invoke her wrath. She holds a particular deep-seated fear and anger towards the Blue Cat tribe, who are responsible for her parents' death and her enslavement, and she shows no mercy towards them. Furthermore, Fran has a notorious love for food, especially curry. She considers curry the supreme food and becomes highly motivated and energetic whenever it is involved, even when exhausted from battle.

A central aspect of Fran's character is her relationship with her teacher, the sword. Their bond is explicitly paternal and filial, with the sword acting as her guardian, mentor, and protector. He cooks for her, teaches her techniques, screens people who take an interest in her, and provides constant guidance. Fran, in turn, places complete trust in him, looks to him for advice, and reacts with extreme protectiveness to any disparaging remarks made about him. Beyond this central relationship, Fran is a member of the Adventurer's Guild, where she forms bonds with various people, including the guild master Klimt, the oni examiner Donadrond, the receptionist Nell, and the dwarven blacksmith Garth. She also has a complex relationship with the high-ranking adventurer Amanda, who acts as a persistent, motherly figure towards her, much to Fran's reluctant dismay.

Fran's primary role in the story is that of the deuteragonist and wielder of the main character. Together with her teacher, she undertakes the quest to grow stronger and, most importantly, to achieve the evolution of her race, which was the dream of her parents and her own long-held ambition since childhood. Her journey involves taking on adventurer quests, delving into dungeons, battling powerful monsters, and confronting villains such as corrupt nobles and slavers. Throughout these adventures, she works to overcome her past trauma and prove that her tribe, which is looked down upon by society, can rise to become powerful and renowned.

Fran undergoes significant development over the course of the story. She starts as a traumatized former slave with a single-minded desire for strength. As she adventures with her teacher, she gains confidence and a wider sense of purpose, moving beyond simple survival to actively protecting others and seeking justice. A pivotal moment in her development is her confrontation with a Blue Cat mercenary, where she overcomes her paralyzing fear to fight back. Her ultimate personal milestone is achieving evolution, surpassing the Black Tiger form to become a rare and powerful Black Heavenly Tiger. This evolution not only grants her immense power but also provides her with crucial information on how the curse on her race can potentially be lifted.

Fran is a formidable combatant whose abilities are greatly amplified by her symbiotic bond with her teacher. By wielding him, she can share and utilize his vast array of skills and magic, compensating for her own initially low magical power. She favors the spellsword combat style, seamlessly combining high-level sword techniques with powerful elemental magic. Her signature skills include lightning-based attacks, which after her evolution become black lightning, and the Blink skill for instantaneous movement. Her notable weapons and techniques include the sword art Dragon Fang, which forms a massive blade of energy, and the Aura Blade technique. Upon evolving, she gains an Awakened state where her eyes turn golden and her tail gains striped patterns. In this form, she can access even more powerful techniques. Fran is also a master of several forms of magic, including Fire, Wind, and Lightning, and she possesses numerous skills that enhance her physical capabilities, stealth, and combat intuition. Her statistics and skill levels grow rapidly, and she accumulates many titles reflecting her numerous achievements as an adventurer.
