TV-Series
Description
Mashiro Nijigaoka is a fourteen-year-old second-year student at Sorashido Academy who lives with her grandmother, Yoyo Nijigaoka, while her parents work overseas. She keeps in touch with them through letters. Her nickname among friends is Mashiron. Mashiro is an ordinary girl who is kind, thoughtful, and possesses a wide knowledge of cooking and nature. She enjoys baking and drawing, yet she struggles to identify a single passion she wants to pursue when she grows up, which reflects her initial lack of direction in life. When she was younger she was quite shy, but by the start of the series she has gained a degree of confidence thanks to her longstanding friendship with Ageha Hijiri. Despite this, Mashiro tends to panic when faced with unfamiliar situations and often overthinks or takes matters more seriously than her companions. She has moments of exasperation at the sometimes strange behavior of Sora Harewataru, but she deeply values Sora’s friendship and her heroic ideals. Mashiro’s primary motivation is to support those she cares about. When Sora tries to persuade her to stop being a Pretty Cure because of the danger revealed by nightmares, Mashiro firmly believes that they should face threats together and continue protecting Princess Ellee. Her role in the story is that of the second Cure to awaken, and she serves as an emotional anchor for the team. She is the Pretty Cure of Light, known as Cure Prism. Mashiro’s key relationships include her close bond with Sora, with whom she performs combination attacks; her childhood friendship with Ageha, who helped her come out of her shell; and her protective care for Ellee. She also grows to trust Tsubasa Yuunagi and works alongside all her teammates as a cohesive unit. Over the course of the series, Mashiro undergoes noticeable development. She starts as a hesitant girl with low self-confidence, but gradually becomes more assured and proactive. Her growth culminates in moments where she provides crucial emotional support to Sora, such as writing her a heartfelt letter that helps Sora recover from a crisis of faith in herself. Mashiro learns to embrace her own worth and contributions, stepping beyond her earlier uncertainty. As Cure Prism, Mashiro can generate spheres of light that she uses both as projectiles to attack enemies and as platforms to aid her allies. Her solo finishing move is Prism Shot, in which she creates a giant ball of light and fires it at a foe, purifying them. Later in the season she gains the ability Prism Shine, which produces a golden ball of light that, instead of being fired, is raised into the air to purify the Undergu Energy inside a target’s heart. Together with Cure Sky, she performs the team attack Updraft Shining, and with the entire group she can use Majestic Halation. Mashiro is also noted as the first white-themed Cure who can transform independently and who has heritage from both Earth and Skyland.
