Description
Namie Portman is a supporting character in the anime series Argevollen. She serves as a private in the Arandas Army's 8th Independent Unit, where she pilots the Type ZTK5 SEIRAN, a Trail Krieger mecha. While she demonstrates strong aptitude as a test pilot—her physical and performance data were used as modeling references for the Seiran's development—she lacks real combat experience, which initially limits her effectiveness on the battlefield. She is the newest recruit to join the 8th Autonomous Unit and holds the rank of senior private.
Namie has a calm and approachable personality. She is known for carrying lollipops with her and frequently offering them to others, a small gesture that reflects her friendly nature. She shares a prior connection with the protagonist Tokimune Sumusu, having been his underclassman in a mobile weapons study course before their military service. The two get along well, and their established rapport helps her integrate into the unit.
Her motivations are tied to her role as a pilot and her growing sense of responsibility. Although she initially appears hesitant and struggles with the psychological toll of combat—at one point showing signs of post-traumatic stress after a harrowing mission—she gradually works to overcome her fears. She also demonstrates protectiveness toward Tokimune, once composing a message to her company demanding that he be removed from the Argevollen for his own safety, though she ultimately cannot bring herself to submit it.
Throughout the story, Namie develops from a nervous and inexperienced soldier into a more competent and reliable member of the 8th Independent Unit. Her key relationships include Tokimune, whom she supports and occasionally challenges, as well as her fellow unit members, with whom she builds camaraderie through shared missions. Her notable ability lies in her technical skill as a test pilot, which contributes to the refinement of the Seiran's systems, even as she continues to gain practical combat experience.
