TV-Series
Description
Francesca Prelati is a central figure in the True and False Holy Grail Wars of Snowfield, acting as a mastermind and the true Master of True Caster. Her true identity is François Prelati, the infamous alchemist and close associate of Gilles de Rais from the time of Joan of Arc. Despite originally being male, Francesca has lived for centuries by dying and reincarnating into new bodies, with her current form being that of a young girl. Her long and twisted history includes numerous deaths at the hands of powerful beings such as Kischur Zelretch Schweinorg, Saint Germain, and notably Touko Aozaki, who killed her thirty times.
Francesca presents a deceptively friendly and whimsical demeanor, but this masks a profoundly cruel and devious personality. She finds genuine entertainment in chaos, despair, and the suffering of others, once gleefully showing a child the severed head of their mother. She openly scoffs at concepts of justice or heroism, finding the role of a villain far easier as it comes with no moral boundaries. Her primary motivation is not a conventional wish for the Holy Grail, but rather to use its power to capture a certain Great Labyrinth, which she believes is key to her true goal: the advancement of human technology to the point where all forms of True Magic are extinguished. She is willing to repeat this attempt countless times, even until humanity goes extinct, to achieve this by chance. A more immediate and personal interest lies in defiling Joan of Arc, should she appear as a Ruler, to sabotage her role and force her into despair.
In the story of Fate/strange Fake, Francesca is a primary architect of the false Holy Grail War, having brought components from Fuyuki, such as the Greater Grail's magical energy and the corrupted mud, to America. She works closely with the American government, represented by Faldeus Dioland, and has ties to powerful organizations like the Scladio family. Her role involves selecting the True Masters for the war, including the ruthless Bazdilot Cordelion, the hollow mercenary Sigma, and Haruri Borzak. She herself participates as a Master, using her own body as a catalyst to summon her heroic spirit self, François Prelati, as True Caster.
Key relationships define her actions. She shares a unique, almost collaborative bond with her Servant, True Caster, who is a past version of herself; they work together seamlessly, often discussing events while eating snacks. Her history is also tied to her sworn friend Gilles de Rais, and she was once thwarted from meeting him again by Zouken Matou. Her interactions with others are often mocking or manipulative. She chides police chief Orlando Reeve for his seriousness, and her backstory includes a formative encounter with a young Sigma, whom she took in after showing him his dead mother's head out of curiosity.
Francesca undergoes little traditional character development, as she is already an ancient, immutable force of chaos. Her role is to be an instigator and observer, ensuring the war remains unpredictable and entertaining for her. She is consistently shown to be several steps ahead, working towards her own inscrutable ends while appearing to cooperate with other factions.
Regarding abilities, Francesca possesses vast knowledge of the magical world, accumulated over her centuries of life. She is a highly skilled magus, with a particular expertise in illusion magecraft capable of deceiving the environment itself. Her immortality is a unique form of reincarnation, allowing her to transfer into a new body after each death. Her workshop is a colossal, modified airship floating twenty kilometers high in the stratosphere, which she has layered with numerous defensive wards. She also wields significant resources and influence, able to acquire high-class catalysts and relics from past Holy Grail Wars with ease. Her physical appearance is notable for a zipper-like opening on her torso lined with teeth, which she nonchalantly displays as a curiosity.
