Description
Koito Minase is a first-year high school student who transfers to Hosea Academy and becomes one of the main phantom hunters in the series. Her special ability manifests through her voice: by singing or reciting incantations, she generates sound waves that can create binding chains or unleash flames powerful enough to incinerate phantoms. She is almost always seen wearing headphones, which serve as both a personal style and a means of tuning out the world around her.

Koito’s background is marked by early isolation. Her powers awakened when she was still a child, and the strength of her ability frightened her classmates, friends, and even her parents. This experience of being feared and rejected led her to believe that she is fundamentally different from others, and she developed a cold, antisocial exterior as a defense. She came to view her power not as a gift but as a source of separation.

As a result, Koito prefers to work alone. She initially refuses to join the Phantom-hunting club or cooperate with other students, choosing instead to hunt phantoms on her own terms. Her approach to phantoms is pragmatic and ruthless: she believes they should be destroyed rather than merely sealed. Her motivation at the start is to keep others at a distance and handle threats in the way she sees fit.

Despite her solitary nature, Koito eventually becomes part of the main group led by Haruhiko Ichijo. Her initial encounters with the team are marked by antagonism and reluctance, but after they assist her during a dangerous hunt, she begins to warm to them. Over time, she learns to trust her companions and accepts a role as a core member of the group. Her relationships with Mai Kawakami, Reina Izumi, and the others develop slowly, with each interaction chipping away at the walls she built.

Koito’s character arc centers on overcoming the trauma of her childhood isolation. As she fights alongside her new friends, she realizes that her power does not have to be a curse—it can be used to protect people she cares about. She grows from a lone operative into a reliable teammate, gradually opening herself to genuine connection and learning that being different does not mean being alone. Her abilities remain sound-based throughout the series, and her commanding presence in battle reflects the inner strength she gains as she embraces her place within the group.
