Description
Haruka Koumi is a main character from the series Rail Wars!. She is a seventeen-year-old high school student and a member of the Fourth Peacekeeper Squad of the Japanese National Railways, a unit often referred to as "K4". Physically, she is depicted with long coral or auburn-pink hair and stands at a height of 158 centimeters. Coming from a wealthy and distinguished family, she is the daughter of a father who disapproves of the national railway and the granddaughter of a former president of the Japanese National Railways, which gives her powerful connections within the railway world, including to the stationmaster of Tokyo Station.

In terms of personality, Haruka is generally portrayed as shy, soft-spoken, and nervous, particularly in high-pressure situations. Despite her timid demeanor, she is highly intelligent and academically gifted, with a calm and polite disposition that reflects her upbringing as a young lady from an affluent family. This surface-level shyness hides a determined core, and she can exhibit a jealous streak regarding certain people, showing a more emotionally vulnerable side that contrasts with her usual composure.

Haruka's most notable ability is her extraordinary memory, which is described as almost photographic. This talent allows her to memorize the schedules of all trains, both passenger and freight, that pass through Tokyo Station. However, her skills are highly specialized, as she has a pronounced weakness in physical activities. Her poor coordination and slow reflexes often make her a liability in action-oriented tasks, such as during firearms training where she famously lost control of her weapon and accidentally shot the ceiling, an incident that left her nearly in tears. In addition to her memory, she possesses fluent English skills, a product of her time studying abroad in England.

Within the story, Haruka's primary motivation is deeply personal and rooted in her past. When she was a child, she became trapped in a storage room at a transportation museum. She was rescued by the protagonist, Naoto Takayama, and this event left a lasting emotional impression on her. Consequently, she developed strong romantic feelings for him, which are the driving force behind her decision to join the公安队 (public safety team), a job that is far from the comfortable life her family background could provide. Her role in the squad is often that of a supporter who relies on her intellect and memory, while the others handle the more physical confrontations. Her relationship with Naoto is a key part of the narrative, marked by her evident affection and occasional jealousy when other girls, particularly fellow squad member Aoi Sakurai, interact with him. While she sees Aoi as both a comrade and a romantic rival, the two share a friendship and mutual trust as members of the same unit.

Throughout the series, Haruka shows subtle development, moving from a purely passive character defined by her crush to someone who takes decisive action. This is most evident in a storyline involving a lifesaving organ transport, where she volunteers for a critical mission. Her motivation stems from a past trauma of losing an acquaintance who could not receive a transplant in time, and she uses her academic knowledge to handle the technical aspects of the operation. Her background studying in England also becomes relevant, as it is revealed she is acquainted with Prince Bernina of Atera from that time. This connection allows her to act as an interpreter for the prince when he visits Japan, further integrating her personal history into the main plot.
