Description
Chihiro Furuya, a high school student with a peculiar fascination for zombies, becomes obsessed with the idea of resurrecting the dead after the loss of his beloved pet cat, Babu. His fixation leads him to experiment with a mysterious potion found in an ancient manuscript. One night, while conducting his experiments in an abandoned botanical garden, he encounters Rea Sanka, a girl from a wealthy family who is struggling under the oppressive control of her father. Rea, feeling trapped and desperate, contemplates suicide and accidentally ingests the potion Chihiro has been working on. This results in her transformation into a zombie.

As Rea adjusts to her new undead state, she moves in with Chihiro and his family, seeking refuge from her father, who becomes increasingly unhinged in his attempts to reclaim her. The series explores the complexities of their relationship, blending dark humor, romance, and supernatural elements. Rea’s condition introduces challenges, such as her need to consume a special liquid to maintain her humanity and the gradual decay of her body. Meanwhile, Chihiro grapples with his feelings for Rea, torn between his zombie obsession and the reality of her situation.

The narrative delves into themes of family dysfunction, identity, and the boundaries between life and death. Rea’s father, Danichiro Sanka, serves as a central antagonist, his obsession with controlling Rea escalating to dangerous levels. Secondary characters, including Chihiro’s cousin Ranko and Rea’s maid Wanko, add depth to the story, providing both comedic relief and emotional support. The series balances its darker moments with lighthearted interactions, creating a unique tone that oscillates between melancholic and whimsical.

As the story progresses, the consequences of Rea’s transformation become more pronounced, raising questions about the ethics of resurrection and the nature of humanity. The series concludes with an open-ended resolution, leaving room for interpretation regarding the future of Chihiro and Rea’s relationship and the broader implications of her undead existence.
