Mitsuru Hattori

Mitsuru Hattori is a Japanese manga artist born on October 8, 1977 in Toba, Mie Prefecture, Japan. He is a graduate of the Yoyogi Animation Academy and made his professional debut in 2000 with the series Inu Neko Jump!, which was serialized in Kodansha's Young Magazine Uppers. Hattori is best known for creating several manga series that have been adapted into popular anime television shows.
His first major success was Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho, a sports comedy series that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine from 2005 to 2008 and collected into nine volumes. The story follows a high school swimming club and received a thirteen-episode anime adaptation produced by Studio Artland, which aired in Japan from July to September 2007. Following this, Hattori created Sankarea: Undying Love, a horror romance manga serialized in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine from 2009 to 2014. This series, about a boy who falls in love with a zombie girl, was also adapted into an anime television series.
More recently, Hattori created the manga Wash It All Away, which was serialized in Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine from 2017 to 2023 and collected into ten volumes. The story is a seaside slice-of-life narrative centered on Wakana Kinme, a young woman who runs a laundry service in the resort town of Atami, helping customers preserve memories imbued in their cherished belongings. An anime television adaptation of Wash It All Away has been announced and is scheduled to debut in 2026.
