Manga
Description
Chihiro Furuya, a high school student with a peculiar fascination for zombies, becomes entangled in a surreal and macabre tale after encountering Rea Sanka, the daughter of a wealthy and oppressive family. Chihiro’s obsession with zombies stems from a childhood incident involving his deceased pet cat, Babu, whom he attempted to revive using an ancient potion recipe. This fixation leads him to experiment with resurrection techniques, which inadvertently draws Rea into his life. Rea, burdened by her father’s controlling and abusive behavior, seeks solace in Chihiro’s company. Their relationship deepens after Rea tragically dies and is resurrected as a zombie through the same potion Chihiro had been developing.

The narrative explores the complexities of their bond as Rea grapples with her new undead existence. Her transformation brings both physical and emotional challenges, including her struggle to maintain her humanity while dealing with her deteriorating body and insatiable hunger for hydrangea leaves, which serve as a substitute for human flesh. Chihiro, initially driven by his zombie obsession, begins to develop genuine feelings for Rea, complicating his initial motivations. The story delves into themes of love, identity, and mortality, as the two navigate their unconventional relationship amidst societal and supernatural obstacles.

Supporting characters add depth to the narrative, including Rea’s domineering father, Dan’ichiro Sanka, whose overprotective and manipulative behavior drives much of the conflict. His obsession with preserving Rea’s purity and controlling her life contrasts sharply with Chihiro’s growing affection and acceptance of her undead state. Additionally, Chihiro’s cousin, Ranko Saouji, provides a grounded perspective, often challenging Chihiro’s actions and offering emotional support. The story also introduces other supernatural elements, such as a mysterious shrine maiden and a rival zombie, further complicating the central plot.

The manga balances moments of dark humor, romance, and horror, creating a unique blend of genres. It examines the ethical and emotional implications of resurrection, as well as the boundaries of love and devotion. The evolving dynamics between Chihiro and Rea, alongside the external pressures they face, drive the narrative forward, culminating in a story that is both poignant and unsettling. The series concludes with a resolution that ties together the central themes, leaving a lasting impression on the reader.
