Mayumi Asano is a Japanese voice actress born on November 13, 1969, in Tokyo, Japan. She is affiliated with the talent management firm Office Osawa, having moved there in October 2006 from her previous agency, Production Baobab.

Asano's path to voice acting began while she was a student at the Visual Techno Academia school, where she made her debut in the 1996 theatrical film Lupin III: DEAD OR ALIVE. Her career is characterized by a wide vocal range, allowing her to portray a diverse array of characters, from young boys and adult women to heroes and even creatures.

Over a career spanning more than two decades, Asano has accumulated an extensive list of credits in anime, video games, and foreign language dubbing. In the early 2000s, she began landing prominent roles, such as Sheyenne Rainstorm in Wild Arms: Twilight Venom (1999), Hisoka Kurosaki in Descendants of Darkness (2000), and Blue in Wolf's Rain (2003). She gained wider recognition for her portrayal of the kunoichi Haku in the long-running series Naruto (2002) and its subsequent installments, a role she also reprised in several related video games. Another notable early leading role was as Claus Valca in the acclaimed series Last Exile (2003).

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Asano's versatility remained evident. She voiced characters like the intelligent and composed Rina Tōin in Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch (2003), the swordswoman Baiken in the Guilty Gear video game series (2017), and the spirited Lady Jo in the Lupin III: Angel Tactics (2005) special. In fantasy and action genres, her roles included Touya in Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit (2007), Kurutsu in Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie (2015), and Filisis Moog in the OVA Strait Jacket (2007). She also demonstrated her range by playing younger male characters, such as Kid in Soul Eater (2008).

Her filmography from this period also includes numerous supporting roles in popular series, such as Mizuho Hamaji in Shrine of the Morning Mist (2002), Sakura Mizunosaki in Oku-sama wa Joshi Kōsei (2005), Sprocket in Viewtiful Joe (2004), and the twins Hansel and Helene in the OVA series Yonimo Osoroshii Grimm Dōwa (2000). She also played recurring characters like the geisha Ikumatsu in Gintama (2005) and Aria Sanka in Sankarea: Undying Love (2012).

In more recent years, Asano has continued to take on a variety of roles. She voiced Mai Ayano, the mother of the protagonist, in Smile Down the Runway (2020), and Chizuru Godai, the grandmother of the main character, in Dance Dance Danseur (2022). She also played Tanya in the film The Animal Conference on the Environment (2010), the bear character Kururu in Nyanbo! (2016), and Nyaago, also known as Nyandaa Kamen, in the series Nyani ga Nyandaa Nyandaa Kamen (2000). Her work in the Precure franchise includes the role of Mannequin Carmine in the Eiga Dokidoki! Precure film (2013) and reprising the part of Kazuyo Natsuki in the adult-oriented sequel Hope Power ~Precure Full Bloom~ (2023). Asano also provided the voice for Shirley Hunter in ZOIDS WILD ZERO (2020) and has been active in dubbing foreign films and series, providing the Japanese voice for actresses such as Scarlett Johansson.
