TV-Series
Description
Hilda is a member of the Gekkostate, the anti-government militia and counterculture collective that serves as the central group of the story. Her primary role aboard their ship, the Gekko, is that of a pilot and a quartermaster. She is the pilot of the blue Terminus typeR808, a humanoid shape-shifting combat vehicle known as a Light Finding Operation. In her logistical capacity, Hilda is responsible for keeping track of the organization's provisions and mechanical parts, which puts her in charge of the frequent trips into cities to replenish supplies.
Hilda has a calm, wise, and friendly demeanor, allowing her to handle her managerial duties effectively. She is also very practical and skilled at domestic tasks, shown to be a very good cook. Despite her generally composed nature, she can be serious and strict. This is a trait that reflects her background; before joining Gekkostate, Hilda was a public servant or government worker, which explains why she can be formal and by-the-book at times. She has a noticeable aversion to a traditional prank that the other male members of the crew play on newcomers.
Hilda shares a significant and close relationship with Matthieu, the pilot of the Terminus typeR606. The two behave very much like an old married couple. Hilda frequently orders Matthieu around as if he were her husband, often berating him for his childish or lackadaisical attitude, while he affectionately calls her honey, a nickname she finds silly. Despite this bickering, their bond is strong and they are willing to risk their lives to protect one another. Her most important friendship on the ship is with Talho Yuuki, the head pilot of the Gekko, whom she is best friends with. When the main protagonist Eureka is absent, Hilda steps into a maternal role, taking care of the three young children, Maurice, Linck, and Maeter, further demonstrating her nurturing side. She also acted as a mentor to Eureka on one occasion, giving her insightful advice about the complex emotion of jealousy and helping her understand her feelings regarding Renton and the Nirvash.
Throughout the series, Hilda proves to be a reliable and grounding presence on the Gekko, often keeping the rowdier members in line and ensuring the group has what it needs to operate. Her motivation stems from her loyalty to her crewmates, functioning as a supportive core member who helps maintain the ship's family-like atmosphere. Later in the story, as the conflict escalates, her appearances become less frequent, and her role as an LFO pilot diminishes as primary combat duties are taken over by others. In a moment that hints at her competitive side or perhaps her perceived limitations, she staunchly refuses to join a crew soccer game when it is suggested. At the conclusion of the main events, Hilda chooses to leave Gekkostate alongside Matthieu, resigning to begin a new chapter of her life, with speculation that the two travel the world together as ref board riders, enthusiasts of the wave-riding sport that features prominently in the series.
