Description
Ranko Kanzaki is a 14-year-old girl from Kumamoto, born on April 8. She possesses gray hair styled in twin ponytails ending in curls and striking blood-red eyes, standing 156 cm tall. Her theme color is dark purple, consistently reflected in her Gothic Lolita attire featuring dark purple, white, or black elements, detailed with lace, ruffles, and accessories like a lace umbrella.

She embodies traits of "chuunibyou" (eighth-grader syndrome), adopting the elaborate persona of Brunhilde, a half-angel, half-demon princess ruling over darkness with near-unlimited power. She frequently conceptualizes internal battles between her angelic and demonic sides and seeks locations she perceives as possessing "holy or infernal power," such as St. Peter's Basilica. Despite her affinity for dark aesthetics, she dislikes horror elements and is easily frightened by horror movies.

Beneath this persona lies a fundamentally shy and easily embarrassed individual who stumbles over her words. Initially seeking to replace this ordinary self entirely with Brunhilde, she later learns to accept and integrate both aspects of her personality after guidance reveals her ordinary nature is integral to her identity. Her motivation involves fully committing to the Brunhilde persona to overcome social anxieties.

She employs a highly distinctive speech pattern called "Ranko-go" by others, characterized by archaic language, mythological references, and invented phrases, most notably her declaration "Drown in the darkness!" ("闇に飲まれよ!"). She often uses "darkness" as a positive descriptor, leading to frequent misunderstandings. Those skilled in interpreting her speech are termed "Rangaku Scholars." For instance, she described Uzuki Shimamura's image song as "a pure girl falling into the darkness" to convey it being a pleasant song suited for a normal girl, an assessment initially misinterpreted.

Her favorite food is hamburg steak, which she calls her "forbidden fruit," and drawing is among her hobbies. She maintains close friendships and unit partnerships with Asuka Ninomiya in Dark Illuminate and Chitose Kurosaki in Fortuna Regina. She also collaborated with Rin Shibuya, Riina Tada, Kaede Takagaki, and Minami Nitta in the unit Ao no Gakudan ~Azul Música~. She admires Noa Takamine as "cool" and aspires to holiness comparable to Clarice, with Koume Shirasaka noted as another friend.

Her character development involves gradually embracing her ordinary, shy self rather than suppressing it, integrating both her constructed persona and innate personality through interactions acknowledging her true identity. Her journey reflects themes of self-acceptance and creative expression.

Beyond the core narrative, she appears in various media. Her image song "華蕾夢ミル狂詩曲〜魂ノ導〜" (Kareimu Miru Rhapsody ~Tama no Michibiki~) was released as part of The Idolmaster Cinderella Master 006, including drama tracks detailing her aspirations. She is featured in merchandise such as an 8.5-inch Banpresto Espresto figure and a detailed 32 cm "Awakened Demon Lord" version by Prime 1 Studio scheduled for release in December 2025.
