Description
Hiroyo Hakase is the owner of the Sentai Cafe Himitsukichi, also known as the Secret Base Cafe, located in Tokyo's Akihabara district. She presents herself as a scientist who provides the technology for the unofficial team of heroes known as the Akibarangers, most notably the MMZ-01 transformation devices. Her family name, Hakase, sounds similar to the Japanese word for professor or doctor, a linguistic gag that she appreciates, though this is later revealed to be an alias.

Beneath her composed and slightly eccentric exterior, Hiroyo possesses a mysterious and somewhat mischievous personality. She is the one who personally scouts the three main members of the Akibarangers, telling them they must fight evil, yet she nonchalantly reveals that she has no specific enemies for them to fight, as the initial battles are merely successful delusions. This detached and pragmatic approach to her role as commander is balanced by a willingness to manipulate situations to keep the team together, such as hiring an actor to pose as a heroic Sentai warrior to motivate a disheartened Nobuo Akagi, the team's Red. Her motivations are closely tied to the nature of the delusions that power the Akibarangers and, more personally, to uncovering the secrets of her own past and her connection to the very technology she uses.

In the story, Hiroyo serves as the primary support and command figure for the Akibarangers, operating from her cafe, which acts as their secret base. Her role deepens significantly with the revelation of her true identity. She is not merely a scientist cafe owner but is also the voice actress for Aoi Ichikawa, the protagonist of the fictional in-universe anime Nijiyome Academy Z-Cune Aoi. Her birth name is Hiroyo Tsuzuki, and her acting alias is Shuri Toyozuki. This hidden background places her at the center of the series' central mystery, as her father, Takehiro Tsuzuki, is revealed to be Doctor Z, the head of the antagonistic Stema Otsu Corporation.

Her key relationships include her connection to the three Akibarangers, whom she chose and guides. Her relationship with her father is a central conflict, as he is responsible for a curse placed upon her. This curse manifests as a scorpion tattoo on her body that moves closer to her neck each time the heroes transform, threatening to steal her voice permanently if it reaches its destination. Her relationship with the main antagonist Malseena, known as Marushina, is also complex, as Malseena was a rejected character design from the Z-Cune Aoi anime, linking her to Hiroyo's secret past.

Throughout the series, Hiroyo undergoes notable development. In the first season, her identity as Shuri Toyozuki and her connection to Doctor Z are revealed, leading to the temporary disbandment of the Akibarangers. A significant change occurs in the second season, where the reality has been altered; people do not remember her true identity as a voice actress, and she has a younger half-brother who exists in place of her father, who is now simply a genius scientist and not a villain. Her personality is even subject to drastic, temporary changes due to external plot forces, such as being transformed into a cheerful and common maid-like character called Sister Moe for the purpose of a new in-universe television show.

In terms of abilities, Hiroyo is the creator or provider of the team's primary technology, including their transformation devices. She demonstrates a deep understanding of the Delusion World and the mechanics of how the team's powers function. Beyond her scientific and technical knowledge, she is also a professional voice actress for a major anime character, a skill she occasionally uses. She does not typically fight alongside the Akibarangers but acts as their strategist and observer, monitoring their battles and providing crucial information from the cafe.
