Description
World-renowned wine critic Yutaka Kanzaki has passed away, leaving behind a wine collection valued at over twelve billion yen. His will contains an unusual final challenge: his entire estate will go to whoever can correctly identify the origins and vintages of thirteen specific wines. Twelve of these are designated as the Twelve Apostles, with a thirteenth, superior wine known as The Drops of God standing above them all.
Competing for this inheritance are two men claiming to be the late critic's sons. The first is Shizuku Kanzaki, Yutaka's biological son. As a child, Shizuku received a world-class sensory education in the ways of wine, but he grew to resent his father's all-consuming passion. Now a sales representative for a beer company, he has stubbornly refused to drink wine for years. His rival is Issei Tomine, a young, charismatic, and widely respected wine critic who was adopted by Yutaka shortly before his death. Unlike the amateur Shizuku, Issei possesses a lifetime of knowledge and the refined palate of a professional.
The story follows Shizuku as he reluctantly dives into the world he swore to abandon. Guided by his powerful innate senses of smell and taste, along with fragmented memories from his childhood travels with his father, he begins his quest to decipher the wines. He is joined and supported by Miyabi Shinohara, a knowledgeable but unlucky apprentice sommelier who struggles to pass her certification exams. As Shizuku competes against the formidable Issei, the series explores their differing philosophies, the burden of legacy, and the secrets behind their shared connection to Yutaka. The narrative follows their progress through the Twelve Apostles, with each successfully identified wine bringing Shizuku closer to understanding his father and the true meaning of The Drops of God.
