Description
"Angel Beats!" is a 13-episode anime series set in a mysterious afterlife world resembling a high school. 1Departure

Yuri and her team ambush Angel with hidden firearms, but Angel deflects every shot with a shimmering barrier and disarms the attackers without injury. During the chaos, Otonashi realizes Angel earlier saved him a meal ticket, creating a hesitation to treat her as an enemy. Yuri confronts Otonashi with the choice: side with them or risk vanishing by accepting Angel’s peaceful school life. After observing Angel eating alone in the cafeteria and witnessing Yuri’s unwavering resolve, Otonashi accepts a uniform and rifle, officially joining the Battlefront. 2Guild
Yuri gathers the Afterlife Battlefront members to secure weapons from the Guild,an underground facility hidden beneath the school. She explains that Angel possesses supernatural combat abilities that ordinary firearms cannot counter. The group descends through a tunnel system filled with traps designed to delay Angel. One by one, members trigger traps and appear to die, only to later respawn due to the afterlife’s mechanics. Otonashi questions the purpose of enduring lethal traps when death holds no permanence. Yuri responds by revealing her past: bandits murdered her three younger siblings while she hid, and no divine intervention occurred. She formed the Battlefront to defy the god who allowed that suffering. The traps serve as a test of resolve to prevent anyone who might waver from reaching the Guild’s inner chambers. Upon arrival, the Guild’s leader, Chaa, confirms that all traps are non-lethal simulations but the Guild itself is rigged to self-destruct if Angel draws near. Angel appears and pursues them, triggering the destruction sequence. The Battlefront escapes as the Guild collapses, losing their primary arsenal. Yuri declares they will continue opposing Angel without the Guild’s resources, now forced to rely on improvised tactics while Angel remains active and aware of their base’s location.
3My Song
The Afterlife Battlefront stages a concert in the school gymnasium with Iwasawa,the lead guitarist of Girls Dead Monster, as the main performer. Yuri deploys the operation as a diversion to draw out Angel and attack her. Angel enters the venue during the performance, and SSS members engage her outside while the band continues playing. Iwasawa’s guitar solo triggers a flashback to her living days: she grew up in a household with constant parental conflict, found her only escape in music, and lost her voice from a cerebral hemorrhage caused by a blow from her father. In the afterlife, she regained her voice and the ability to perform. As she finishes her song, she expresses gratitude for having found music, and her body begins to fade. She disappears completely, having accepted her past and moved on. Otonashi watches as Yuri explains that those who find fulfillment vanish from this world. The remaining members of Girls Dead Monster confront the absence of their lead guitarist. Yuri reaffirms her opposition to Angel but shows visible frustration over losing a comrade. Otonashi begins to doubt the SSS’s goal of fighting Angel, seeing that peace instead of resistance led to Iwasawa’s departure. 4Day Game
The Afterlife Battlefront organizes a baseball game against the teachers’ team as a diversion to infiltrate Angel’s computer room. Yuri appoints herself captain and assembles a team,recruiting members from the battlefront and forcing Otonashi to participate. The team uses unconventional tactics, including a bunt-heavy offense and Yuri’s strategic commands, to prolong the game. While the match proceeds, Otonashi, Naoi, and several others sneak into the computer room and locate Angel’s program, Angel Player. They discover the program contains a backdoor that could grant them access to Angel’s abilities, but the system requires a password they cannot bypass. On the field, the battlefront’s team narrowly loses the game after a final play fails, but the diversion successfully occupies Angel and the teachers long enough for the infiltration team to complete their search. Yuri returns to the computer room and examines Angel Player, noting its potential as a weapon if they can unlock it. Otonashi begins to question the morality of using Angel’s own system against her, creating a subtle divide between him and Yuri’s uncompromising stance. Otonashi joins the decoy group and observes Angel sitting alone in a classroom, eating bread after the diversion fails to hold her. He sits beside her and asks why she never unleashes her full power against them. Angel responds that she does not consider the Battlefront her enemies, only rule-breakers disrupting the school. 6Family Affair
The SSS members continue the baseball game against the student council,now joined by Yuri as pitcher. After a failed attempt to make Yui disappear by hitting her with a pitch, Yuri orders the group to switch tactics and instead help Yui fulfill her unfulfilled wishes. Otonashi asks Yui what she wants to do, and she responds with a series of desires ranging from wrestling to playing soccer. The SSS constructs elaborate scenarios to act out each wish, but none cause Yui to vanish. Tenshi observes and later explains to Otonashi that Yui’s actual wish must be something she truly regrets not achieving in her lifetime. Otonashi realizes the missing element and talks with Hinata, who volunteers to fulfill Yui’s final wish: marriage. Hinata asks Yui to marry him, listing concrete ways he would have supported her in life, from helping her out of bed to teaching her baseball. A string on Iwasawa’s guitar snaps, yet she keeps playing, her mind returning to her life before arriving in the afterlife. She recalls growing up in a household marked by domestic violence; after her parents divorced, she found purpose in music. She formed a band and pursued music relentlessly until a sudden stroke ended her career and her life. As she performs the song “My Song” during the concert, she reaches a state of fulfillment and vanishes, having passed on without any lingering resentment. Otonashi watches her disappear and questions the SSS’s doctrine of resisting Angel, concluding that helping members find peace could be an alternative to endless combat. Yuri confronts him afterward, warning that if too many members pass on, the group will lose the strength to oppose Angel. Later, Otonashi joins Hinata and Yui, who discuss Yui’s eagerness to take part in the next mission, hinting at her own unresolved past. 8Dancer in the Dark
The SSS stages a trap for Angel in the school gymnasium,using Otonashi as a decoy. Angel disables the attackers with hand-to-hand combat and escapes. Yuri decides to infiltrate the guild’s computer room to obtain information about Angel. During the descent, Yuri recounts her life: after her parents died, she cared for her two younger siblings, but three intruders killed them during a robbery. In the computer room, Yuri and Otonashi access data on “Angel Player,” which reveals that the world’s NPCs are generated by a program. They learn that the shadow creatures appearing across the school are a glitch in that system, consuming NPCs and students. Angel confronts Yuri, and Yuri accuses her of being an NPC or a tool of God. 9In Your Memory
Yui asks Otonashi to help her recall her memories. She reveals she was bedridden from a spinal injury after a car accident,spending her life watching television and longing for experiences she could not have. Otonashi promises to grant her unfulfilled desires. He enlists Hinata and the others to stage a series of scenarios: Yui performs in a rock concert, plays baseball against the Guild members, and executes a wrestling move on Takamatsu. Hinata confronts Yui directly and proposes marriage, stating he would have married her in their original lives if they had met. Yui accepts, thanks him, and disappears, having found fulfillment. 12Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Otonashi regains his memories of dying in a train accident and donating his heart after death. He realizes Kanade received that heart,making her the person he wished to save. Yuri announces that the Afterlife Battlefront will hold a graduation ceremony for all members to accept their pasts and disappear. Yuri descends into the Angel Player program’s core and confronts its creator, a former student who built the system to trap himself and others in the afterlife. She rejects his logic, destroys the program’s source code, and disables its control over the world. One by one, the SSS members vanish as they resolve their lingering attachments. Hinata and Noda disappear after a final baseball game, while others fade in moments of personal peace. Otonashi confesses his love to Kanade and asks her to stay with him. 13Graduation
Otonashi declares his love for Kanade during the graduation ceremony,and she confesses that she is the recipient of his heart transplant. The moment Kanade expresses gratitude and disappears, Otonashi breaks down but then resolves to stay in the afterlife to help others pass on. Yuri, having confronted the programmer and accepted her own regrets, also vanishes after expressing trust in Otonashi and Hinata. Hinata, after failing to propose to Yui in a previous episode, finds peace and disappears alongside the remaining members one by one. Otonashi remains alone in the guild hall until Kanade’s final message reaches him through a playback of the concert performance, where she thanks him for his love. The sound of her singing triggers Otonashi’s own fading, and he disappears as well, leaving the afterlife world empty.
