Michael Rivas is a Japanese-born singer, actor, and voice actor known for his work in anime. He was born in Japan on February 2, 1985, and grew up in Hawaii. He is of Japanese-American heritage, with a Japanese mother and an American father. Rivas is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He moved to Japan in October 2007 and began his entertainment career primarily as a musician, eventually transitioning into voice acting in 2009.
Rivas's voice acting career is marked by a number of supporting roles in notable anime series. In 2009, one of his early roles was as Jalgo (also known as P-chan Kai) in the series Tentai Senshi Sunred. He provided the voice for the character Jalgo in the show's 37th episode. The following year, he landed what is arguably his most recognized role, TK, in the critically acclaimed series Angel Beats!. TK is a mysterious member of the Afterlife Battle Front known for his hip-hop inspired attire, constant dancing, and cryptic English phrases. Rivas's bilingual ability and musical background contributed to the character's unique vocal delivery, which often involved rapping and ad-libbed lines in English.
Beyond these key roles, Rivas has voiced characters in a variety of other anime productions. In 2010, he served as the narrator for the series Bakugan Battle Brawlers and also voiced the Bakumeter. He appeared in Amagami SS as a mysterious man and a transformation belt voice. Other credits include a game referee in Mayo Chiki! (2011), the narrator for an Inu x Boku SS special episode and an American communication officer in Arpeggio of Blue Steel -Ars Nova- (2013), and the system voice for the series DRAMAtical Murder (2014).
In 2015, Rivas voiced Ethan Preneite, also known as the Sonic Ninja, in the popular series Assassination Classroom. He also had a role as the leader of a mind-reading group in a 2015 special episode of Angel Beats! as well as in the series Charlotte. His film work includes providing the voice for Carlos Lee in the 2014 film Detective Conan: Dimensional Sniper. In 2016, he voiced Maren's Father in Haruchika: Haruta & Chika, and he also voiced Spy d Man in A Star Brighter Than the Sun in 2025.
