Megumi Ogata is a renowned Japanese voice actress and singer, born on June 6, 1965, in Tokyo, Japan. She began her career in 1992 after initially training as a musical actress and graduating from the Tokyo Voice Specialist School. Early in her career, she was affiliated with Aoni Production.

Ogata is widely recognized for her distinctive, husky voice, which has allowed her to specialize in voicing young male characters and tomboyish female roles. This unique vocal quality has led fans to affectionately call her "Aniki," a Japanese term for "big brother". Her debut role as the cool and collected Kurama in Yu Yu Hakusho established her as a prominent voice for male characters. She continued to gain popularity for her portrayal of the charming and masculine Sailor Uranus in the Sailor Moon series.

One of her most iconic and career-defining performances came in 1995 as the protagonist Shinji Ikari in the landmark series Neon Genesis Evangelion. Her nuanced portrayal of the character's complex psychological state, including his fear, anxiety, and despair, is widely considered a tour de force in voice acting. This role cemented her status as a leading voice actress. She has since reprised the role in numerous films and related projects, including Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time.

Throughout her extensive career, Ogata has voiced a vast array of characters. She is known to younger generations for her roles as Makoto Naegi and Nagito Komaeda in the Danganronpa franchise, Itona Horibe in Assassination Classroom, and the dual roles of Hanako-kun and Tsukasa Yugi in Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun. In recent years, she has taken on roles such as Yūta Okkotsu in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Doctor in Akudama Drive, Easley in The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace, and Cranberry in Magical Girl Raising Project. Her filmography also includes significant parts in series like Cardcaptor Sakura as Yukito Tsukishiro/Yue, Magic Knight Rayearth, and many others.

Beyond her work in anime, Ogata is also an accomplished singer, performing under the name em:óu, and has released numerous albums and singles. She founded her own agency, Breathe Arts, in February 2019. Her contributions to the voice acting industry have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the High Bridge and Branch Award at the 7th Seiyu Awards in 2013 and the Best Actress Award at the 16th Seiyu Awards in 2022.
